When we got to the place, it was great. It has a beautiful view, decently clean for a hostel, and upon our arrival, we were greeted by Patrick (guy who runs the front desk), and he was super cool and right away took us to lunch (cheap place down the road) and we hung out and had some drinks. We... More

We are sorry for your experience, but would like to comment that ss of December 2014, the management has changed! The "Nice guy" Patrick is now in charge of the hostel as the sole manager along with the German owner Holger and a new team of nice Brazilian employees! We hope this may change your mind to pay us a... More

We stayed here in 06 as an older (60s) couple and loved the view, of course, but also the favela experience and excused the roughness given the location. Only problem was the limited communication but luckily our fellow guest was multilingual.

Billed as Rio's first favela-hostel, we stayed here over the Carnival period, as it was one of the cheapest hostels available at the time (despite our initial apprehensions). Situated in the Vila Pereira da Silva favela, the pousada offers a unique insight into favela life, minus the crime associated with a lot of other favelas. In fact, the one time... More

Stunning, world class views! Had the place to myself with 2 cute cats and 2 loveable dogs. Was a mission to find and navigate luggage but well worth the effort. My stay was the most peaceful and felt totally safe and comfortable . Andrea was great - delicious breakfasts and she even made a yummy dinner and caipirinhas for me.... More

A fantastic experience - seeing a very safe favela up close. All favela residents were friendly and helpful. Shame the same can't be said for the staff - the woman who worked there was very unhelpful - the man with her less so. When booking, they said that you can enjoy a beer or caiprinha on the roof terrace -... More

Hey there! Thanks for the nice comment about our establishment in terms of location anc cleanliness :) It is indeed hard to find another place with such a postcard view. As for things that caused you trouble: we are happy to tell you and other travelers that the management has changed and a whole new (nice!) staff will now sell... More

The favela is not the most dangerous place of Rio. Unless the favela you are going to is having a turf war which is not the case for the favela pereira da silva where this favela is in. This favela was dangerous a long time ago but due to its lack of strategic placement is not a drug hotspot. People... More

we stayed 3 nights at this posada. Pros : the best viewof Rio, for sure, night and day, can't describe, will always be on our mind for a long time! The people inside the favela were very nice, peaceful. Great experience to stay in a favela and be able to make her own opinion about what is a favela. From... More

Thanks for the Pros.. :) And also thanks for the "Cons"...We have listened and changed the management: Please feel free to test our "new and improved friendly staff :))" We are really sorry for any onconveniences caused by people who were not ready to live up to a real service mentality! I booked a room here because 1. it was reasonably priced and 2. I was intrigued about staying in a favela whilst in Brazil. Good points: Good value during Carnival Near Santa Teresa (interesting part of RIo) Fantastic view from room balcony *BEST THING ABOUT IT* Authentic favela experience (but feels safe) Electric fan Adequate breakfast Helpful local information sheet... We stayed for four nights recently. Some good points: Location has amazing views over the city and the sugar loaf. The Favela feels quite safe. The tram that leads up to the top of the favela is very nice and cheap but does not run very late and is not the quickest. It usually cost only 20 Real (8 pounds)... More
