Lots of space in every room. Everywhere is clean. The location is great also, in Ipanema which is way better than Copacabana in my opinion. Priced a little higher than Copacabana, but trust me it is worth the extra money.

I agree with the last review: I can't undarstand why other people trashed this place, actually I considered it not so bad. It is in the heart of Ipanema, close to the Rio's main beaches and to the metro stop. We slept in a double room with shared bathroom, the room was quite small but very cheap compared to other... Maybe this place is under new management, I don't know, but I arrived in Rio and looked at a lot of hostels before settling for this one. Dorm rooms have 6 beds and were so clean, with fresh sheets and towels. Great kitchen, laundry service and brilliant staff who speak good english and always show concern about your trip, travel... We stayed there for 2 nights only because the lovely mango tree hostel and the whole of rio was booked out due to national holidays. Our room was very simple with weird green windows, which we didn't care about actually. The bathrooms are a big mess, very very dirty, within the two days they weren't cleaned once. We couldn't shower... More

We booked 2 nights here as a last resort as all other hostels in the area were full, what a mistake. The place is filthy and the beds were crawling with bed bugs, my friend was bitten dozens of times and took pictures of the bed bugs, they were that big!! The staff were rude and unhelpful from the start... More

We had a three night confirmed reservation and needed to make some changes. We had a fluent Portugese speaker (living just outside of Rio) call the hostel and confirm that we could make the changes. When we arrived(on what would have been our third night), we were informed that the manager had given away our room because he no longer... More

Bed bugs, lots of rules and lots of what you can't do, mean cook in the kitchen and never saw her smile at anyone, breakfast cost extra (but it is a good value), not super helpful at the front desk and witnessed them giving travelers a hard time over New Years. Gouged travelers over New Years too. Much better hostels... More

Safe place. Young people from other hostels gathering on the street in the evening. Very good kilo restaurant and acai next door.

Staying in Ipanema

Neighborhood Profile
Ipanema
Ipanema is considered Rio's crown jewel. It offers the best view of the sunset from Arpoador and is inspiration for the legendary song, “The Girl from Ipanema.” Ipanema is an upscale area, home to many high-end restaurants and luxury shops, many of which can be found on the charming Garcia d'Ávila Avenue. The neighbourhood is very rich culturally, housing many art galleries that show contemporary art. There is also a great variety of nightlife in the neighbourhood, which buzzes with many options for every taste.
