The night we arrived there was a party at the Aquario hostel next door and because they're so close there is barely a distinction between them. Anyway the party was fun when the wind picked up and the electricity cable got stuck in a tree. This meant no electricity for 2 days practically but they handled it very well with... More

We had a fantastic experience at Che Lagarto in Ilha Grande. We stayed in a private room with a private bathroom. It was nice and clean. There was a hammock hung outside our room and a beautiful view of the water. The common area deck (outside of the lobby) is right on the water with a great view. It is... More

Very expensive for what it was, we looked online and booked with a certain price and then they tried to charge us far more! Shower broke in our room. Plug didn't work in our room, and there was no wifi at all. There are better cheaper options to go for. BBQ was nice, and lots of meat. Staff were ok.... More

Che legarto was clean enough though there was an army of ants marching into the kitchen. The hostel was friendly and had a lovely position next to the sea on the beautiful island of Ilha Grande. It was cheap and one of the only, if not THE only budget option available. I had a good nights sleep and met some... More

We were abit concerned after reading some reviews but were pleasantly surprised, the hostel was very clean, had hot showers, the staff were helpful and the location was amazing. The cocktails are mega cheap, on Saturday night there was a bbq and a great atmosphere. We had the room at the front with a balcony which was gorgeous. Only thing... More

First of all, ilha grande is a stunning island regardless of where you are staying. Although I would recommend che lagarto due to it's location. It is right on the waterfront with a magnificent view of the bay. It makes breakfast/ dinner (on the deck) taste 10 times better. We stayed in a 4 bed dorm which was good. Fairly... More

Friendly staff, English speakers. good sized rooms, relatively clean, good bunks, good lockers under each bunk, en suite showers (but could do with a scrub). Bring ear plugs as it gets noisy at night. I left after 1 night because the mattresses and pillows smelt and looked mouldy. I would have been happy with it were it not for this.

Don’t dare to stay there! Even though the accommodation is good and clean and has a magnificent view to the beach, you can’t use the kitchen (which is mostly used by the stuff), the Wi-Fi is terrible and, worst of all, people from the staff came into our room in the middle of the night asking for a free bed... I was interested to stay at a Che Lagarto Hostel at some point on my trip through South America as I'd seen and heard a lot about them before I'd arrived. As the title states I was massively disappointed. I wish I'd read the reviews on here because most of them hit the nail on the head. The staff on... More

Never stay here! No running water, no wifi! Check in took an hour. Went out for dinner straight after, came back and there were people in our beds. Took 2 hrs for reception to relocate us. Would never recommend! Many other guests had similar problems with checking in and being over booked
