What's not good, We got free cocktails, free Samba (Axe) lessons, Free Capoeria shows, Free Jazz performances, daytrips to far away beaches. The place is amazingly colourful, and the breakfast is super tasty, and cooked by a dancing queen singing away in the kitchen.

We booked a room in Open House Barra after reading the reviews here on Tripadvisor. The House was a little bit difficult to find - we arrived in Barra by bus and then walked to the House. We actually walked past it at first - the sign is really small. Maybe it´s useful for security reasons - but just take... More

We stayed in Open house last summer (august 2012), as soon as we walked through the door it felt like entering in a different world, eveything is art, colours, you can feel peace and joy just looking around. Alex and Jackie have been wonderfuo hosts giving us precious advices on the city and outside; as they are into music, dance... More

Awesome hostel in the barra neighborhood Pros - location : very close to the beach, and a perfect spot between pelourinho and rio Vermelho - Alex the owner is extremely nice and welcoming. He welcomes you with a drink, and will gladly strike up a conversation with you over a caipirinha, in addition to helping you with anything. - our... More

The owner welcomed us with some drinks as we arrived tired from the airport. He was very friendly and the place was located in a safe neighborhood in Salvador (Barra). He really made us feel welcome. Good wi-fi, and he also helped us arrange a night to watch some Catumble, which was an interesting cultural experience.

The moment we arrived we were welcomed with caipirinhas by the owner of the hostel and the staff. The hostel is colourful and open is not just a random name, but really the attitude of the hostel. Everyone was super friendly and welcoming. The owner told us about jam sessions, samba and capoeira courses which were offered for free in... More

A truly unique hostel; every surface/wall/stair/ is painted in beautiful bright designs by Alex's wife who gave us samba lessons and welcomed us into the bosom of her home, also the hostel. Alex is full of energy, treating you like a friend rather than a customer, and gave us music lessons, advice, drinks and food. It was just like staying... More

My friends and I loved this hostel. The owner and the staff is amazingly friendly. They do everything to make you enjoy your trip without trying to sell you anything. We had reserved a room for 5 people, but since one of the rooms was free, he let my boyfriend and I be alone in a room and my friends... More

We stayed at the Open House for a week over NYE. Alex the owner is one of the most hospitable owners we have stayed with. He and his partner Jacqui have put a lot of effort to make this a wonderful place to stay. Firstly, they have gone above and beyond in their efforts to paint and decorate the house... More

I stayed here for a couple of nights during my recent Salvador visit. Pros - Alex and his partner are very friendly and try to engage guests in local activities, breakfast is pretty great (amazing fruit!), other guests are friendly and open to doing activities together (in case you are a solo traveler this can be great). Great location 5mins... More
