We stayed for 2 nights. The host Sochiero was lovely, driving us to our restaurant, suggesting other places, and driving us to the station on our final morning. Ryokan is a rambling place with wonderful older part. We were in the newer addition but with view on to peaceful garden. Comfy sleeping. Bathroom decor needs a bit of attention but... More

I loved staying here. The owner was thoughtful and made excellent suggestions about where to eat. We went to a local "café" for our evening meal, having first been driven there by the ryokan owner, and sampled all kinds of traditional fare, which we wouldn't have had the chance or the nerve to taste without the introduction. I ate a... More

From the minute we arrived we felt very welcome. The ryokan has a lovely calm atmosphere & is located close to the castle. The owner speaks good English & is really helpful. We ate at a traditional Japanese restaurant that he recommended on our first night & it was a highlight of our trip. We enjoyed a free welcome drink... More

We loved our one night stay at Ishiba Ryokan! First of all the property is beautiful and very traditional. The owners are fantastic, Mr. Ishiba is an incredibly nice guy. Brought us to a local place for dinner, a place which normal tourists would never find. Also he brought us back to the train station in Hirosaki in the morning,... More

The warm welcome and hospitability by the owner, Mr Ishiba had made our stay a memorable and pleasant experience. The english speaking owner recommended good places to visit and to eat... I strongly recommend this as a good place to stay in Hirosaki...

Upon arriving from the station by taxi we were met by a member of staff who showed us to our room, and kindly explained through sign language of a sorts (no English and our Japanese is poor to say the least) where everything was, all very welcoming. The room itself faced a small garden one of which also has a... More

I enjoyed two great nights at Ishiba Ryokan in late-August 2013. English-speaker Mr. Soichiro and his staff were courteous, attentive, and kind. They helped me to make the most of my Hirosaki weekend. They provided clean and comfortable Japanese-style B&B lodgings, abundant multi-item breakfasts, kind attention, and sage advice on good sights and places to eat. Good location and free... More

The unmeasureable Ishiba hospitality, precise traveling pointers and assistance provided during my 6 days stay were great. It is my first stay outside major cities of Japan where I find minimum difficulty in accessing of trekking grounds to dining places. Being a casual trekker, Aomori had numerous comfortable trekking grounds where I will come again without forgoing the stay in... More

Ishiba Ryokan is now the benchmark by which we judge ryokans -- restored and maintained with great respect for the amazing history of the place, yet thoughtfully made very comfortable for the contemporary guest. Location very convenient. The family is very friendly and helpful, and Ischiba-san (fluent in English and French) is ever ready with recommendations and advice for exploring... More

My Pops and I spent a night at the Ishiba Ryokan and were happy we did. Just around the corner from the Hirosaki Castle (and all the cherry trees) and within easy striking range to the Izakayas of "downtown". What made our time special was the owner who went out of his way to make sure we enjoyed our stay.... More
