Don't be fooled by the initial impression. The Amherst Inn is one of those little traveler's motels built in about the 1940s on what were the main roads (before interstates). Most of them aren't a place I'd stay nowadays; but this one has been completely updated and is extremely clean, quiet and delightful. It even feels and smells clean. I've... More

This was an inexpensive old but clean Mom and Pop type place. Wi-Fi was available as was a good selection of tv channels. McDonalds was across the street. This was all that was necessary for my trip. *********************************************************************8

The heater/AC in wall unit is very loud. Luckily we had an electric blanket with us. Room was very cold at check in and had to go somewhere and let it warm up. Back to change clothes and 15 minutes late to our appt. No continental breakfast of any note. OK for one night for the price. CPW

OK, so I had not very high expectations....having suffered in other rural motels with no chain name attached. So I was pleasantly surprised by the value for the money. Came here to be ahead of the weather one night. It's locally owned by pleasant people, clean and safe (the police station is just around the corner). McDonald's is right across... More

Four of us recently stayed at the Amherst inn in Amherst, VA while on a hunting trip. The rooms were small, but very clean and comfortable. The bathrooms were also small, but clean with plenty of hot water. We had a refrigerator in the room which we kept beer and softdrinks in. The motel owners were very friendly. Several local... More

It was Homecoming week at Liberty University and every hotel was booked in Lynchburg. We found this small hotel up the road in Amherst, VA, near Sweet Briar College. Now, the rooms are small, and the bathroom even smaller, with a walk in shower you have to kind of squeeze into. But the bed was comfortable. And, for 53 dollars... More

My first visit--a small room and tight shower stall, but with a refrigerator and flat screen satellite TV and clean and quiet--for $45 a night. Plus one can easily walk to fast food, a sandwich shop, a grocery store, and Italian and Chinese restaurants. Anywhere in Lynchburg will cost twice as much and more.

We got rained out at the (somewhat) nearby James River State Park campground. We were kind of skeptical at first- it is older and out in the middle of nowhere and a motel (not hotel)- hoping we weren't getting an hourly rental at the Notell Motel- Pleasantly surprised and very happy we chose to stay. Very clean, staff courteous and... More
