This place certainly has it's good and not so good. The location is difficult to find and has limited parking and the parking spaces that are available are TINY. Most of the staff was friendly and fairly knowledgeable. The staff, however, wasn't always readily available when needed and hard to find at times. The breakfast, if you can call it... More

Spent a few nights here. Very laid-back and quirky atmosphere - much like Austin itself. Not exactly what you would call a central location - good for it you need to get to the university/college across the road - but still only a 5-10min bus ride to the centre. Rooms were average, 1 toilet/shower being shared between 2 rooms (~12... More

To be fair, we checked into Drifter Jack's for the weekend of ACL. Apparently everything gets a little crazy during festivals. We get that. However, no amount of citywide mayhem could have explained the bizarre incompetency of this hostel. We'll hit the pros first. Drifter Jack's is in a great neighborhood, right in the middle of UT. It's a stone's... More

To start, the location itself is kind of hard to find. You have to move past Fat Sals, PAST the noodle place, then up the stairs to the hostel. I use the term hostel pretty loosely though as it comes across more like a modified crack den, but without (as many) crack heads. Maybe one to two staff seemed interested... More

Joel is probably the coolest guy you will ever meet which is not too difficult to imagine once you realise that he is the manager of one of, if not THE wackiest hostels in Austin. He is one of the many staff that make this place a fantastic spot to stay in and helped me out big time during the... More

Drifter Jack's was a great hostel- still very new, fresh, and open to suggestion. It was great for the price, they have coffee and a small breakfast in the morning. I liked the vibe a lot, and the location is in a nice part of town. The only two things were that it was BUSY (can't help that !), and... More

This Hostel really impressed me the location is great, prices are reasonable and all the staff+owner Andy are extremely good people and very kind/helpful. I arrived, was given the wrong key for my room, the room was supposed to have 4 beds, there were 6, the latch on my locker broke and fell off, the "ensuite" bathroom was shared between a male and female dorm, parking lot was full, the Thai Noodle lady yelled at me, I was given the wrong directions to the... Drifter Jack's is not for the faint of heart but will give you a true hosteling experience. It's clean enough, great location although parking is sketchy at best, and mostly a cordial staff. Kitchen and laundry room share same space and atop the fridge is the "liquor cabinet" sans the cabinet. Breakfast not quite sufficient for those "on the go"... More

Drifter Jack's was probably one of the best places I've stayed so far on my travels. So incredibly chilled out with awesome people to hang around with. Busses right outside the hostel as well as a 7-11, clothing shops, food shops and pharmacies all within 1-5 minutes walking distance. Will definitely be going back!
