We were passing through Austin as part of a larger road trip, with the destination being a family reunion on the Texas gulf coast. We had done a fair amount of research on fun and funky lodging along the way, and were very excited about our stop at the famous Austin Motel, a vintage property, located in the hip "SoCo"... more

The Austin Motel is a very cool, different place to stay. Each room is different and has its own style. We stayed in a room with shag bedspreads and polka dotted walls. The pool and location were great. The only problem was the people at the front desk. When we encountered the first rude person, I just figured, everyone has... more

The place was kitchy and oh-so-cool (because, thankfully the air conditioner was kicking as it was in the 90s temp-wise). The price is what draws you, but the cool hip-factor is what keeps you. The rooms were clean, shower water pressure was fine, and even had a small fridge. Coffee was available free in the lobby, but Jo's coffeebar is... more

We only got to stay one night but the motel was exactly as we expected. A real throwback to the age of motor lodges and a true Austin landmark well worth the stay. Really loved the pool and cats. more

Stayed at the Austin Motel for three nights recently. It's a "not to be missed hotel experience" if anyone is like me --- enjoying the old historic hotels and motels. With that in mind, one needs to know what they get for around $80/ night or more. I'd suggest everyone read the website and understand that this motel began in... more

My husband and I stayed at the Austin Motel for 5 nights. The property was great, we loved the pool area and the location was perfect for us. We ate and drank our way through the neighborhood and took many walks over the bridge into downtown! Two minor complaints - one was the bathroom. It was badly in need of... more

We spent one night here on spring break with our ten year old daughter. The locaation is great and the property unique, which is a welcome change from the basic room in a box at chain hotels. We had a suite with a king sized bed (very comfortable) and a queen sized futon in the living room. The only complaint... more

To be clear, the Austin motel is brilliant and beautiful and everything that I would want in a hotel. It is not a five star, it doesn't have some of the little perks some folks are looking for. But if you're looking for comfort, gorgeous surroundings, proximity to the best attractions in the city and one of Austin's best breakfast... more

My boyfriend and I stayed in Room 144, "Simplicity," for two nights in August 2007. The room was comfortable and well-appointed for a motel with a cold air conditioner that kept pace with the intense summer heat. The off-street parking was directly in front of our room and we never had a problem finding a spot. While we were pleased... more

Like the other reviews said - this is a great value. We had the smallest room with a shower and double bed for only $65/night. The room was cute with hardwood floors and some kitschy decor that fit in with the spirit of the motel. Also, it is right on South Congress so you can walk to several great restaurants... more
