If you're unfortunate enough to stay in a ghastly city such as Manila, at least take the essential precaution of finding somewhere half decent to stay in. The Townhouse Hostel unfortunately does not constitute the word 'decent' in any respect, and I will tell you exactly why. Firstly, don't be drawn in by the fact that it is conveniently advertised... The Townhouse is one of the best hotels Ive ever stayed at ... the reason for this is the communal area at reception and the great Cafe downstairs ... You know Ive stayed in hotels in other countrys where the only option is to stay in your room and get bored ... The townhouse is unique in my opinion in... More

This place exist since quite an eternity already. And by that has seen his best times since a while! Only to recommend for people on a very small, limited budget. Every room is just different. Not two of the same. But what they all do have in common, is that cleanliness isn't very high. The owner is called Bill. An... More

Stayed here twice over 8 days while travelling through manila. Lets start with the positives...... the two ladies on reception that helped us were very friendly. They also looked after some of our luggage inbetween stays. Unfortunately, that's it...... We chose the more expensive room option in order to have our own bathroom. The first room we stayed in, on... More

Very appropriate as a one-night stop located close to the airport. That is why you will want to stay here: Location. The service is friendly, a comprehensive kitchen/bar offering and plenty of chilled space. The WiFi in the lobby was fast even when 10+ were loading it, and having come from the Islands this was a treat. Plenty of interesting... More

I stayed only one night and even though it was clean And convenient to the airport I find it really hard to say anything nice about this place. There are other hostels in Manila offering better value. The staff were unpleasant, unhelpful and everything seemed too hard for them. I had to ask them a few times if they had... More

My wife and I have just stayed yet again at the Townhouse Hostel for what is about my fifth stay. It is a little tired but is still very good value for money - remember that it is very cheap and you are getting value for what you are paying. I read the comments from others and feel that perhaps... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Our Townhouse was opened as a hobby, after we'd traveled, worked and were lucky with business in Asia, Europe, and the U.S.A. for almost ten years. We'd stayed in bamboo, beach huts, Asian guesthouses, Spanish pensionnes, American and European campgrounds, hostels, Korean yeogwans and Japanese ryokans on shoestring budgets. We hooked up 'on the road' while traveling in Hong Kong, Korea and Japan in Dec 83, got married 2 years later in 85, decided to have a baby and knowing we'd miss the energy, excitement and adventure of world travel opened the door of our 3 bedroom 2 bath townhouse for travelers as a hobby in 86 which has grown and evolved to the present 35 private rooms with 8 rates from P300 to P950 and 4 bed dormitory. ... more   less
