A great spot to stay to get a taste of a bustling neighbourhood in Manila. Close to transport, cultural and historical attractions, universities, markets, malls and Manila Bay, this clean, secure, affordable, simple but well-run social enterprise supporting children has all the intrepid traveller could want. Room was spotless and surprisingly quiet given the busy location (we were on the... More

Knowing your hard earned cash is going towards a project that makes a difference to the community you are staying in and is a great place to stay with truly lovely, friendly, helpful staff = no brainer! Stayed here twice in May 2013 and August 2013 while travelling around the Philippines and couldn't fault it. We're backpackers and found Makabata... More

Myself and three friends stayed here as part of our one-month long stay in the Philippines, the rooms were incredibly clean and tidy. It also had the option of fan or air con, which was fantastic when sleeping. The room was also equipped with two bathrooms. The chefs and reception staff were extremely accommodating and made amazing pancakes and pizza!!... More

PLUS POINTS : - Easy booking thru phone call - Large room, with an equally spacious bathroom - Very clean rooms, clean towels, with toiletries provided - Complimentary breakfast is good, but serving is small - Very efficient staff, accommodating our request for an earlier breakfast time MINUS POINTS: - It's located in a busy neighborhood in Leveriza Street, surrounded... This guest house is hands down the best in terms of value for money, seeing the real side of Manila location-wise and supporting a fantastic NGO which provides shelter, training and opportunities to Filipino youth. The rooms are simple but clean, with fans and aircon. The highlight was the friendly and helpful staff, and it's convenient to get to the... More

The youth staff at this clean, well presented guesthouse were extremely friendly! It was great to see a NGO succeeding in implementing a program of self reliance and being part of it. Rooms are clean and simple and have air conditioning. The guesthouse is located in a busy area near the main tourist sites, but in the real world!

We stayed at Makabata Gueshouse for 4 nights in May 2013. We choose this hotel as it was our first time in Manila and we wanted a safe place to stay. Lisa in the reception was fantastic, helping us with all our questions, telling us the right prices for things such as taxi. All the staff at the guesthouse are... More

The ONLY solid thing about this hotel is the wifi as they have routers on the floor. The bad points are that... it's in a bad area pretty dirty and dangerous, the rooms are clean but in need of work, the AC does not work well so it was too hot, the staff do not really have a clue what... More
