We stayed there 4 times during our trip to the Philippines and had 4 different rooms. There is a big difference between the rooms as some of them were recently renovated. They let us check in very early for no extra charge. From there you can walk to the old town easily since it is close and the neighborhood fells... More

The rooms are small and a bit musty, but it's good value for money. The people are really nice and helpfull. The neighbourhood is a bit shady and not for everybody. If you want luxury, go to Makati. If you want the real Manila, stay here. Try eating at the Korean Palace two blocks down, it's really nice. The bar... More

The hotel has that old charm with great wood work all over . It is safe and secure . However , like all hotels big and small in Manila , this was another overpriced hotel for your dollar . I agree with the other reviews that the rooms are looking tired , the telephone instrument is dirty . The shower... More

Hello! Thank you for your suggestions. It is truly appreciated. You failed to mention that you were offered to be transferred to a deluxe room at the same rate and you declined. It is difficult for maintenance to fix the problem when the personal property of our guest are all over the room. You finally agreed to move to a... More

We stayed here after running out of vacancy at Where2Next hostel across the street and wanting to stay another night. It was a step up in price, but unfortunately a step down in quality and service. The building is nice, with great tiling and old world style, but the rooms are tired, with old mattresses and AC units that don't... More

Hello! Thank you for your comments. I will investigate. There are two security guards on our front gate at night and a night front desk staff in the lobby. I've never heard a negative comment about our security guards who have been with us for more than a decade. As far as the night staff on desk duty, I will... More

We came here intending to stay for 8 nights originally; however, after spending about 10 minutes in the room, we went downstairs and changed our reservation to one night. The room was really dark (no windows) and smelled HEAVILY of mildew - it was nauseating. The beds were ok, but the room and the bathroom were tiny and didn't seem... More

Hello! Thank you for your review. I view all of our guest comments as a report card as to how well we are doing in keeping our place as inviting to our staying guest. I spoke to our resident manager and our front desk staff. I was informed that your only comment in cutting your stay short was that you... More

I have booked the economy fan room and immediately regretted it. The room was so stuffy and hot. Didn't expect that from a room with fan. I'm glad the friendly staff managed to get me an air conditioned room the other day. You might want to get a room upstairs (through the stairs at the reception instead of the lobby)... More

We were driven to Malate Pensionne from the airport by a driver-advisor. It was an evening and we were tired after flight so we just took the opportunity. Pensionne looked like heaven in this shabby neighbourhood of Malate. Well, it wasn't. Unfrinedly staff to begin, coucroaches in the toilet, unchanged bed sheets in the middle and a tiny "free" breakfast... More

If Malate Pensionne is what you say it is, why is it that we are close to 100% occupancy with many returning guest who make Malate Pensionne their home away from home? Our staff sincerely goes out of their way to make travelers feel at home. That said, in this world, there are folks, for whatever reason, make others react... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Malate Pensionne is located in the heart of Malate, a district of Manila on Adriatico St. (formerly Dakota St under the US Commonwealth & Calle Nuevo under Spain). Our building was built by Americans who leased the land from our grandfather to house American workers. When the lease ended, our mother turned it into Dakota Apts. Returning from her European trips & learning of how Italians welcomed weary travelers to their home like family members, she turned Dakota Apts into Malate Valero Pensionne, now well know as the Malate Pensionne with the slogan, "Your home away from Home". As far as we know, we are the only hotel in the world with a strict policy of only registered guests can walk our hallways. We are about a mile from the US Embassy & Rizal Park. About 2 miles from Intramuros, the old walled city of Manila, a 5 min. walk to Robinson Mall. 15 min. by car to Mall Of Asia & 11.5km to the upscale Makati City & Bonifacio Global City. Mabuhay, Bienvenido, Welcome to your "home away from home". ... more   less
