Budget hostel it may be, but Akari delivers a lot for your money! The hostel does not have its own car park but there are 2 or 3 in the neighborhood within 5mns walk. Likewise, the closest tram line is very close; and cherry on top, Akari has the Tram Pass for sell at the front desk, which is very... More

We were very satisfied with Akari Hostel. I went there with my boyfriend and we booked a double room for 3300 Yen per night and per person without breakfast. (8-bed-room would be 2800 Yen/night/per person.) The room was very clean and comfortable. There was even traditional tatami floor despite the double bed on it (no futons), which we liked very... Just a short 10-15 minute walk from the train station (they directions they will email you are superb and easy to follow) the hostel is really well located, within a few minutes of a tram stop, right on the river where you'll find the Spectacles bridge and close to restaurants, shopping and attractions. The staff here are excellent. Very helpful,... More

I stayed in a private room which was basic but nice enough the bathroom ensuite was a little run down but ok, still nice and clean and does the job. The staff were very friendly with lots of information about Nagasaki attractions. It was close to the main station and the cable car lines. It's right on a pretty river... More

Akari is only 2 short stops on the tram from the station and a 2 minute walk. Helpful English speaking staff when we arrived. They have so much useful info on the surrounding area and hostel suggestions across Japan. We also loved their cartoon style city map. It includes everything and everywhere you need to know about the old town,... More

The certificates on the wall show that this was once one of the best guest houses in Japan. Sadly that is no longer the case. The dorm rooms are too crowded, and too warm (and I was visiting in early April). The toilets and shower facilities seem to be in need for renovation, and the whole hostel seems a bit... More

We stayed here for three nights in the 8-bed mixed dorm. The location is good. It's a 15 min walk from the train station or 2 stops on the tram and a 2 minute walk which is super easy. The tram system is very efficient and it's very easy to get to all the sites. It's also on the Nagashima-Gawa... More

I stayed in a 4-bed mixed dorm on the 4th floor. Beds were very comfortable with thick duvets, and I loved the tatami mats on the floor. The beds each had a private lamp and a personal locker just outside. As a mixed dorm, beds could have done with a curtain. Also the communal sinks were right outside our door,... More

Stayed in a private room with private toilet and bathroom (approx 1.5x2m). Uncomfortable mattress and place is pretty old. Towel for rent YEN100 and shower amenities can be bought at reception. Free wifi only in living room and free use of computers. Friendly staff but once checked out, you are not allowed to enter the building at all, not even... More

My girlfriend & I really enjoyed our stay here. Upon arrival the owner of the hostel welcomed us, showed us all of the facilities, recommended where to go and how to get there, and gave us a discount card for the city's main attractions (50% off most of what the city has to offer for tourists). The hostel itself is... More
