Hostel is clean, convenient. Staff were very helpful. However, during our stay the exhaust fan in the toilet sounded like a train. On our 1st night, our room 401 was filled with cooking smell coming from the hall way. It was about 11pm. We had to open the window for about an hour for the air to circulate.

Very convenient location and beautiful hostel. Everything looks brand new, and it's very well cared for even in the smallest details (down to having advice for vegetarian customers on where to eat and how to say 'I'm a vegetarian' in Japanese!) Loved the room, and the kitchen/common area was very welcoming and comfy. The owner was also super gentle and... More

Pros: Easy to get to: Followed directions on website (take tram, follow non tram street, across bridge, see it on your left), easy to find, big sign. Tip: They were away for lunch until 3pm, so dropped off bags, grabbed their recycled map (found out later tailor made by them) and checked out neighborhood--hot pizza and bento boxes nearby. Easy... Takes a little bit of finding when you first arrive. But the hostel is actually very well placed, with beautiful walks along the river, and along an extensive shrine complex just behind. Trams are nearby for travelling to other parts of this compact and charming city. Well decorated rooms, and friendly helpful staff. Plus the recommended cafe just around the... More

Our stay at Hostel Akari in Nagasaki was very enjoyable. Staff were incredibly accommodating - we mistakenly arrived a day earlier than our actual booking but we were welcomed very hospitably regardless of our premature arrival. The hostel itself is perfectly fine - well proportioned rooms, great communal area and good amenities. Hostel Akari's location is also a real plus... More

Budget hostel it may be, but Akari delivers a lot for your money! The hostel does not have its own car park but there are 2 or 3 in the neighborhood within 5mns walk. Likewise, the closest tram line is very close; and cherry on top, Akari has the Tram Pass for sell at the front desk, which is very... More

We were very satisfied with Akari Hostel. I went there with my boyfriend and we booked a double room for 3300 Yen per night and per person without breakfast. (8-bed-room would be 2800 Yen/night/per person.) The room was very clean and comfortable. There was even traditional tatami floor despite the double bed on it (no futons), which we liked very... Just a short 10-15 minute walk from the train station (they directions they will email you are superb and easy to follow) the hostel is really well located, within a few minutes of a tram stop, right on the river where you'll find the Spectacles bridge and close to restaurants, shopping and attractions. The staff here are excellent. Very helpful,... More

I stayed in a private room which was basic but nice enough the bathroom ensuite was a little run down but ok, still nice and clean and does the job. The staff were very friendly with lots of information about Nagasaki attractions. It was close to the main station and the cable car lines. It's right on a pretty river... More

Akari is only 2 short stops on the tram from the station and a 2 minute walk. Helpful English speaking staff when we arrived. They have so much useful info on the surrounding area and hostel suggestions across Japan. We also loved their cartoon style city map. It includes everything and everywhere you need to know about the old town,... More
