This was a great stay in an amazing city. It was close to the street car and was easy to find. Once there, the staff was so incredibly helpful. There was information EVERYWHERE of what to do, what to see, where to eat, etc... and they were more than happy to answer any questions that we had. They even give... More

Highly recommend this hostel in Nagasaki !! Home-ly, cozy, Japanese, social-not-too-social and lovely staff! It's location is perfect to simply leave the house and walk around coming across temples upon temples, the riverside. Nagasaki itself is also well worth a visit. Enjoy :)

My partner and I were backpacking for three weeks, we found it easy to arrive at Akari Hostel. We caught a tram from Nagasaki station and then it is only a short walk to the hostel. Staff speak great English and are very nice and helpful. There is a great common room area and good Wifi! We stayed in a... More

A friendly, clean and well managed hostel in a great location in Nagasaki, with both dorms and private rooms. Bed linen is provided, even in the dorms, and there is decent free wifi and aircon. In general, the hostel is very calm. But there was some light street noise at night, even in the top floor dorm at the back... More

I stayed in a private room with my husband at this hostel. The room was clean and had a private bathroom. The shower room was quite large. The common area downstairs is well kept and tidy. The kitchen is very user friendly and has all the dishes you need to cook. They also provide some spices, oil, and soy sauce.... More

Hostel is clean, convenient. Staff were very helpful. However, during our stay the exhaust fan in the toilet sounded like a train. On our 1st night, our room 401 was filled with cooking smell coming from the hall way. It was about 11pm. We had to open the window for about an hour for the air to circulate.

Very convenient location and beautiful hostel. Everything looks brand new, and it's very well cared for even in the smallest details (down to having advice for vegetarian customers on where to eat and how to say 'I'm a vegetarian' in Japanese!) Loved the room, and the kitchen/common area was very welcoming and comfy. The owner was also super gentle and... More

Pros: Easy to get to: Followed directions on website (take tram, follow non tram street, across bridge, see it on your left), easy to find, big sign. Tip: They were away for lunch until 3pm, so dropped off bags, grabbed their recycled map (found out later tailor made by them) and checked out neighborhood--hot pizza and bento boxes nearby. Easy... Takes a little bit of finding when you first arrive. But the hostel is actually very well placed, with beautiful walks along the river, and along an extensive shrine complex just behind. Trams are nearby for travelling to other parts of this compact and charming city. Well decorated rooms, and friendly helpful staff. Plus the recommended cafe just around the... More
