Loved staying at The Screen. Doro/Todo (sorry about spelling) at reception, impeccable service, sense of humour and care. Each suite designed by different Italian decorator, Room 12 was lovely, plenty of space and great ambience. After sleeping on a tatami for 2 nights in a traditional Ryokan, we felt truly relaxed and comfortable at The Screen for 6 nights. Restaurant... More

The service is impeccable. Our room is the biggest hotel room I have every been in and stylishly furnished New York Style. The staff were extremely helpful and answered our every questions about Kyoto. It is quite central to everything in Kyoto. The restaurant in it is excellent too. We tried the degustation with Kobe beef. Best beef we have... More

I had a pleasant stay at the Screen. Located at the corner of Teramachi and Marutamachi dori, the hotel is not too far from the main Sanjo-Shijo area, 10mins walk from Marutamachi subway or Marutamachi keihan train on the east side of the river. The neighbourhood is great, with a mix of peaceful traditional mood (old shrine with markets and... More

We stayed in Room 302 (Cherry Blossom in Winter) and found it so comfortable for our three-night stay in Kyoto. It was refreshing after our stay in a smaller room in Tokyo to have so much space to spread out our suitcases. The hotel was very quiet and we slept well in the true King bed. The hotel and room... Had a great large room - 401 with three big beds for us to spread out and large sofa with great TV and entertainment system. One issue was not being able to get a meal on the first night after arriving earlyt evening they had no tables left. Partly our fault as we should have checked. Luckilly there are loads... More

My family of 4 (kids 7 and 9) visited this hotel for four nights during the height of the cherry blossom season in April 2014. We got room 202 and it was more than enough room for all 4 of us. The main king bed is larger than in the US and they brought in 2 rollaway beds for the... More

Stayed for 3 night in Kyoto at the beginning of December and I could not pic a better place for location & friendly staff. They also have an excellent Restaurant, french-japanese fusion kind, in case you didn't feel like going out for dinner after all day walking around Kyoto. The Hotel is also near other small cool and fancy restaurants... More

This is a bit of a late review I admit, but better late then never! Firstly, the screen is beautiful and clean and set in a quiet but transport friendly location. Connections to buses and metro was quick and easy and very close to great destinations like Fushimi Inari. While we stayed, my companion got quite sick (high fever) and... More

I hardly review hotels but really this was exceptional. The guyz at the front desk really made our experience of touring Kyoto an enjoyable one. Nothing was too hard for them, recommending amazing restaurants, local specialities, organising taxis, maps, reservations, bikes, you name it, it was there, all with a smile and a never ending bow!

This attractive boutique hotel is located in the center of Kyoto on the northern end of Teramachi Dori, where there are many interesting artisan shops and quality restaurants, both Japanese and foreign. The food for in room dining is delicious and reasonably priced (JPY 500 for continental breakfast and JPY 1,800 for dinner). The staff is young, helpful and creative,... More
