To get to the hotel, you have to do a 15minute walk from the nearest JR station. It's also strategically located near 2 bus stops, on which lets you get off on prime Kyoto destinations. It's also near a supermarket, wherein you can get local and pre-prepared food, too. There's a handful of Japanese restaurants, if you want to have... More

visited 5 years ago and returned this december. Stayed 6 nights with family. Great value for money. Easy access to tourists attractions, jr station and eating places. Great location for day trips out of kyoto too. My girls got dressed up in kimonos, thanks to the staff. The facillities at the new capsule ryokan are great and can be used... More

5 of us stayed very comfortably in one room. Appreciated the authentic Japanese feel with the mats and the screen. Room was very clean, sleeping area large enough to accommodate the 5 of us. Entry area was small though. Bathroom separate from shower area. Staff were superb and spoke English. They provided info about Kyoto and how to get around.... More

This was very clean and kept tidy. The staff were all helpful and friendly staff, and the inn is within walking distance of the train station, and the are is in between a couple of main streets. It is also quiet and very safe.

My friends and I stayed in one of their rooms meant for 4 for 2 nights in May 2015. I am a picky traveler and I rarely ever give the "excellent" rating. But I really think, for the price I paid (their normal rate, around S$40 per person), that this place deserves nothing less. I would say, if you're travelling... More

Hostel is situated in a perfect location! Walking distance to Nishiki market, subway station and also some temples. Stuff is very young and friendly and so the visitors are. Clean and nice small rooms. Minus is that sound from other rooms and coridor is very strong. Very nice is that this hostel organize various activities for guests such as night... More

There is bus stop for bus 260 nearby which is connecting to kyoto station or Kiyomizu-dera (they are in different direction). We stayed 5 in a room with private bath and toilet. The room was very clean and comfortable, with ample space for us and our luggage, and came at a great price. The staff were friendly and most helpful. A guide on visiting Kyoto was thoughtfully provided. Emails were always promptly answered. The free kimono dressing was great fun! Budget... More

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighborhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
