Good value for money this hostel is the perfect base to explore the Kyoto area (including Osaka and Nara). It's a fairly short walk from the train station with a variety of restaurants etc in walking distance. The rooms were clean and the beds were very comfy. The shared bathrooms included complimentary shampoo, conditioner and shower gel which was handy... More

This place was easy to find (I came in from the train station) and offered a good price for a nice hostel. Everything was clean and well maintained. The common spaces had a lot of good guide books, and free coffee/tea all day, which was really nice. Although I had to walk to a different building to get to my... More

K's House is found only 5 minutes from Kyoto train station, Kyoto tower, and shopping district. the hostel is very friendly and homely, with the staff able to speak enough English to get along with anyone. The rooms are from 4-8 so you wont know who room mates will be until they check in. the hostel has a large kitchen... More

Friendly, very clean, good quality hsotel which was excellent value for money. Had room on 4th floor and only once during 9 day stay was I wakened with noise in the night. Toilets are kept spotless and staff are friendly and helpful. Avoid breakfast in adjoining cafe as better quality and better value food available in cafes in nearby streets

Spent a couple of night here while travelling with my brother. The rooms although basic are very clean and the common room area had a lovely open plan setup. I will definitely stay here again when I next travel to Kyoto as it is perfectly situated in relation to the main train station. The staff were lovely and the little... More

We rented a 4 person room. Very comfortable and clean. Bathrooms were clean, and directions to get there were on point. Super easy to find from the station. Air conditioner included in room. Big hostel, very spacious. Staff was helpful and efficient. Stay here!

As soon as I walked in, was welcomed :) shoes off policy which in my opinion was so sick. Bar connected to the hostel so convinent for a drink before going out. The beds are bunk style so felt like back when I was a kid and went to camps every summer. The 2nd floor is common area and so... More

The hostel is well located, easily walking distance to kyoto station. It's also a fairly cheap taxi from Sanjo area if you want to go out at night. Room was a triple with my friends and it was small but clean, as expected. Washrooms were clean. The common room was very nice. Really appreciated the shoe dryers after a storm... More

K's House Kyoto was the best hostel have stayed at in Japan and I have stayed at quite a few in the past one month here. Conveniently located to the station, about a 10 min walk and positioned well for many of the local tourist attractions, affording guests the opportunity to see Kyoto by foot or bike. Facilities offered are... More

stayed there in March 2015 with a couple of friends. beddings, rooms, toilets are all super clean. Kitchen and the common area is cool too. Walking distance to Kyoto station but there is a bus station just nearby that can take you anywhere, esp with the daily bus pass.

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighborhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
