As soon as I walked in, was welcomed :) shoes off policy which in my opinion was so sick. Bar connected to the hostel so convinent for a drink before going out. The beds are bunk style so felt like back when I was a kid and went to camps every summer. The 2nd floor is common area and so... More

The hostel is well located, easily walking distance to kyoto station. It's also a fairly cheap taxi from Sanjo area if you want to go out at night. Room was a triple with my friends and it was small but clean, as expected. Washrooms were clean. The common room was very nice. Really appreciated the shoe dryers after a storm... More

K's House Kyoto was the best hostel have stayed at in Japan and I have stayed at quite a few in the past one month here. Conveniently located to the station, about a 10 min walk and positioned well for many of the local tourist attractions, affording guests the opportunity to see Kyoto by foot or bike. Facilities offered are... More

stayed there in March 2015 with a couple of friends. beddings, rooms, toilets are all super clean. Kitchen and the common area is cool too. Walking distance to Kyoto station but there is a bus station just nearby that can take you anywhere, esp with the daily bus pass.

It was great! Everything you need as a traveller: kitchen, launge, nice clean rooms/bathrooms/showers, free internet that even worked even in our rooms... most of the time (sometimes it was down, but at least it worked mostly; something other hostels has been unable to do so far), and a laundry room with both washing and drying machines. On our entire... More

K's house in Kyoto is really first class. Like most hostes we used in Japan the rooms were small but they were clean and had a tv in each room (with BBC). There are shared male/female bathrooms/showers on each floor but they were clean and modern. There are lots of places to congregate and hang out in this hostel. There... More

Great place to enjoy Kyoto. Its not far from the train station and a little ways from all the attractions. The rooms and travelers were very quaint. Bathrooms seemed to be cleaned on the regular. I would recommend renting a bike from here or the essentric man who owns the bike rental place around the corner and explore Kyoto

If you are looking for budget accommodation in Kyoto, close to the train station I definitely recommend this hostel. For a hostel it's extremely clean and well organized. Rooms are nice and comfortable, there is a very nice communal area and decent kitchen. Staff is helpful, they organize activities as well and there is a bar/restaurant connected to the hostel.... This was just a wonderful place to stay during our visit to Kyoto. We were lucky to travel during the off season so we were able to walk in and have a room, however this is not recommended. This place fills up quick so it is best to book this in advance! The amenities and the services that they provide... More

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighborhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
