I chose Toyoko Inn as my first accommodation in Kyoto. It's a reliable and well located hotel. The room was a suitable size for the money and the breakfast was fine. It was a decent starting point for my Kyoto adventure but if I was to go again I'd most likely get an apartment or ryokan near Gion or Kyoto... More

This was my 2nd stay in this hotel. The location is just excellent! Walking distance to Nishiki Market, Kamo River, Gion etc. As it is located at the junction of Shijo-Karasuma, many buses, subway & train stations are available there! Toyoko Inn standard is very consistent! Fast check-in and check-out! Friendly staffs and nice breakfast.

Stayed here for 5 nights, was in a great location close to transport and city. Convinience store next door was super useful for snacks and forgotten items. Laundry services were good and clean, 200Y for wash and 100Y for 30min dry - detergent was 30Y. Staff were very nice and wifi/breakfast was included. Doors use keys which need to be... More

Very good hotel that offers excellent value for money. Very friendly and helpful staff. The rooms are equipped with airconditioning, a flat-screen TV, a fridge and an electric kettle. The lobby features free wifi and vending machines with drinks and snacks. The Kyoto Shijo-Karasuma Toyoko hotel provides luggage storage. The hotel is only two stops away from the Kyoto subway... I stayed here only last week. Very strategic location. 1 min to Shijo Karasuma station and 3 mins walk to Nishiki market on the left of the hotel. The hotel is located at the shopping area which we have Tokyu Hands opposite the hotel. Great place to stay as the receptionist is warm and caring to your needs. Communication is... More

This hotel can be reached by metro and bus. You can go crazy shopping nearby (within walking distance) and take either metro or bus to visit many tourist attractions in Kyoto. If you will be there in the cherry blossom season, it's better to make a booking of this hotel at least 4 months ago.

Just stayed here for 5 nights. I won't repeat what others have said: excellent central location, bus stops and subway, restaurants, Daimaru, Tokyu Hand, Nishiki market etc., all at your doorsteps! The room is small and compact, no complaints. Room 214 has no view; window faces a wall. But I spent most of my time sightseeing, no complaints too. It's... More

I have selected this hotel mainly due to its very convenient location. Just a few step to Shijo subway and Hankyu karasuma station. Only 2 stations from Kyoto subway station. There is also bus stop that goes to many sightseeing spots outside the hotel. Daimaru isn't few blocks away and Tokyo Hands is just directly opposite the hotel. The con... More

Toyoko Inn is a large Japanese hotel chain of basic hotels. The rooms are small but adequate, very clean and adequately equipped. Very typical of Japanese high standard of hygiene, effectively efficient and very affordably priced. They provide free wifi though the reception quality varies from poor to excellent. Basic Japanese breakfast is included with free coffee! The locations are generally central... More

Staying in Shinkyogoku Shopping District

Neighborhood Profile
Shinkyogoku Shopping District
Those who delight in shopping and cuisine will find themselves at home in Shinkyogoku. Lauded and visited by locals for its Nishiki Market, where baskets of fragrant spices, dried fish, and just-fried foods are piled high along the snaking streets of its enclosed outdoor shopping spaces, Shinkyogoku is not only a hub for fresh fare, but also for fast fashion fixes. Trends-in-the-making can be spotted in the tall windows of several one-of-a-kind stores featuring local labels and modish boutiques. Arcades, outdoor concert spaces, mega department stores, and small, enchanting cafes have sprung up to accommodate the increasing traffic. Whether looking for souvenirs and kitsch on Shinkyogoku Street, or scoping out the massive food court and restaurant floor at Takashimaya Department store, there's something for every wallet or purse, and a buyer for every item.
