It's a confortable but not all the rooms are the same. The first night the only room available was so small that we cannot walk at the same time, and of course no place to open the lugage. For the rest of the nights they change us to a bigger room, more confortable. So, it deppends, but the hotel is... More

What we remember most was how helpful and accommodating the staff were. On my booking form, I noted how my husband is extremely tall and how we would be grateful for a large bed. When we arrived at our room, we were highly amused to see that they had pushed two king-sized beds together! My husband is tall - not... More

Polite service, lovely gardens and decent sized rooms (by Japanese standards). The robes were a welcome amenity. The bath overlooking Japanese gardens were magical after a long day of touring. Good location. Not far from subway.

This is our second visit to the hotel. This time there were three of us so we booked a corner room. Honestly, one would be better off to book a double room and a single room for three people for the same price. Our room was very tight after putting in three beds. The bathroom was tiny and so I... Our family of 13 stayed at this hotel for 2 nights in December 2015. Overall the experience was pleasant, service was excellent, and the rooms were comfortable and clean though quite small. If you like to be within walking distance of the subway (3 mins away), shopping area (Nishiki market is approximately 10 minutes walk away), and you intend to... More

This hotel was very comfortable and well located. It was walking distance to Gion and Shijo Street which has interesting restaurants and shops. It's also close to public transport. The hotel itself features a private 'onsen' which is more like a large spa which is good for relaxing after a long day of sightseeing and shopping.

I stayed at Mitsui Garden Hotel Kyoto Sanjo for business for the first time. It's close to the subway Karasuma-Oike station, so it's easy to go everywhere. I had a moderate single room which was small but clean and functional. The staff are polite and helpful. It's a nice "business" hotel and a perfect choice for a business trip by... More

This hotel is well located in Kyoto, you are in a walking distance from several shopping streets and the metro is just around the corner. The breakfast wasn’t included in our stay but there is a Starbucks right across the stress. There is also a restaurant across the street that has really good kobe beef. When we arrived they assigned... More

My previous experience of hotels is that regardless of the country, every room has had a safe. There were two hotels I stayed in in Japan where a safe wasnt provided so this wasnt exclusively a Matsui feature. The room was pretty good sized, the location close to a subway station. As most hotel rooms do, they had this book... More

Stayed here last month for business. Im very familiar with most of the hotels in Kyoto since Ive traveled there three times a year for over 15 years now. But this was my first time at the Mitsui Garden Sanjo. I like the location, easy to get anywhere and there is a Starbucks opposite which always helps when you need... More

Staying in City Center

Neighborhood Profile
City Center
No district of Kyoto is quite as representative of its blended nature as the City Center. By day, the covered shopping arcades along Kawaramachi and Shijo Street bring deal hunters and fashionistas out in droves to peruse the clothing, accessories, gifts, and home goods offerings. When it grows dark, the City Center is a hip spot for nightlife, alive with bars and clubs. A trendy culinary scene and an abundance of local watering holes give the Center its youthful vibrancy. In contrast, the quieter areas of the City Center seem a world away, shielded from noise by the foliage of the public gardens and zen spaces surrounding the area's shrines, castles, and the Imperial Palace. These ancient and sacred spots are seamlessly folded into the scenery, providing a respite from the energy of the city, but close enough to put you directly back onto the pulse of the city when you're ready.
