My stay in Aarashiyama Benkei Ryokan was absolutely perfect!! The ryokan is a 15 min walk from JR Saga-Arashiyama Station. On reaching the ryokan, my name was displayed on a chalk board outside the main door, nice touch! The ryokan was situated RIGHT next to the river and a 2 min walk from Togetsu Bridge. The staff alsowiped our luggages... More

We stayed here in October 29th 2014. The traditional feel and ambience of the place made it a very restful and relaxing stay. Arashiyama town is beautiful and I am glad we stayed at Benkei Ryokan for two nights. This gave us enough time to explore the town. The menu for the two nights were different and we especially like... More

We had a great time in this ryokan. It was our first experience on this type of hotel. They pick is up from the station and put the luggage in our room. They were very punctual and tried really hard to make us feel comfortable . The food was fantastic and the view from the main hall where you have... More

This is the real Japan with a real focus on meeting the needs of the visitor. From the signboard welcoming all visitors by name to the staff accompanying you to the pavement on exit and waiting until you have disappeared from sight. Location on the riverside is fantastic and a river view room is worthwhile (restaurant for breakfast overlooks river... More

We indulged! Trying to experience as much japanese culture in a short trip as we can, we stayed in a different ryokan each night of our stay. As our final treat, we decided on Arashiyama Benkei, with full dinner-breakfast accommodation ..... Grounds were perfect; Staff was gracious. Scenery was astoundingly gorgeous! It was an absolutely perfect experience!

We stayed at the Arashiyama Benkei in mid December as an alternative to our first choice, Hoshinoya, which was unfortunately closed for repairs. Taking the Hankyu railway from Kyoto, we alighted at the Hankyu Arashiyama station a short half hour later. On foot, crossing the famed Togetsukyo bridge, we found the ryokan by the river a short 8 minute walk... More

Six days in Kyoto, four different accommodations. Arashiyama Benkei was my favorite. We had an enormous room. I do not know how many tatami mats, but we had a private onsen, a lovely view of the gardens, and space! The futon was thick and comfortable, and the staff were incredibly accommodating. Dinner was full on and at least ten courses.... More

Everything is perfect except that they have not prepared any food for you to eat during midnite.... Dinner was early at 7:30pm and all shops nearby were closed and there was no wifi in room. Otherwise, this ryokan is perfect for a relax and refreshing trip!

The hot spring and the room are fine. However, the food was not worthy as the price we paid. And the worst part is the service. We have been many hot spring resorts, but never been such bad service like this one. We had to leave our room to ask if our breakfast was ready although we already informed them... More
