Friends highly recommended this place. It was a convenient place to stay as we were heading to Arashiyama. Shopping street with a number of eating places, convenience stores, supermarkets and public baths are within walking distance. Place is clean and host is staying on the ground floor, approachable and helpful. Guest house is equipped with a shared kitchen, can do... More

We were recommended this guest house by some friends of ours who had an amazing experience here. And unfortunately, it didn't really hit the spot for us, but mainly because we weren't traveling in season. The room is poorly isolated making it cold for a winter stay, but we survived! The owner was very nice and helpful with tips of... More

This guest house was our very first night for our very first trip to Japan (or outside Australia in general). Along with that, there will always be a culture shock and a travel shock. This guest house did not make for an extremely pleasant first day due to its location and facilities. First of all, it must be made clear,... More

A few things that I WISH I had known prior to arriving. Firstly, the location. I arrived late in the evening and could not for the life of me find the place. This was quite frustrating especially after a long day of travelling and not being able to speak Japanese. The hostel is located on a quiet street and is... More

We went to kyoto 18-20April which probably was high season of the city so the house was full booked, people were crowded and a western family with 2 kids always made noise. We loved everything about this guesthouse but we won't go back again because it's hard to sleep even we're so tired though. Other guests which most were japanese... More

We had one room for a night than had to change for no apparent reason. In the second room, we got lots of mosquito bites and it was quite noisy with the tram. It is conveniently located for the tram and JR. The bamboo Forrest is 30mins walk away. Plenty of good food locally. No chairs which is traditional but... More

Bola bola is a nice guesthouse. A lot of coffe houses around and little shops/ food. Take the bus from the station. THAT WAY IT"S EASY to find bola bola. With the "old train/tram" easy to get to Arashiyama. There's a lot to do and to see. Ask for the map in the guesthouse. These are perfect for use. The... More

We visited here in May 2010. We had 6 days in Japan on a flight stop-over and my husband wanted to see Kyoto. We only had two days in Kyoto. With a two year old. I decided we could only see one neighbourhood so we would stay somewhere affordable near Arashiyama or Northern Higashiyama. I picked Bola Bola. It's a... More

The place was a little difficult to find at first but ample help was provided - you can ask for directions and help at the train station at Uzumasa and the staff will assist you. Careful where you are going! I entered the wrong way and was greeted by the fierce looking family dog. =) The owner is a nice... More

We stayed at Bola Bola guest house in march 2009 and i think we will always remember this place. The home is a real ryokan, the owner very helpful and nice. first we thought that the location is a little bit far away from kyoto city center, but after visiting bamboo forest, the best spa (onsen) i ever been and...
