I stayed in the annex part of the hotel. After booking on the Internet and paying US $140 a night I was expecting a fairly classic establishment. I arrived at the front lobby a day thought I was in a backpackers hostel. The lobby had a long table with about a dozen cheap metal chairs round it. A huge drinks machine... More

Maybe alright for japanese business men, but for travellers? Firstly you arrive exhausted after travelling for 24 hours, and check in is not until 3pm, no exceptions. It was just after 12 noon. We went up the wrong lift with all our bags, there was no one to direct us. The room was so small the double bed was pushed... More

Rediculously priced for a very average hotel, standard sized tiny Japanese room, we were forced to have a smoking room which was rank, and the breakfast is nothing like the pictures and average, once food runs out its not restocked and found hair in the food - all in all very very overpriced for the standard (especially on weekends when... The hotel is located a ten-minute walk south-west of Kyoto station. By western standards the rooms are quite small. There is hardly any space for your luggage and there is no wardrobe. The bathroom is well-appointed but rather tiny, too. Breakfast is self-service and mainly Japanese food such as tofu, yakisoba, rice, miso-soup, nori, coleslaw and pickles. However, there are... My wife and I had been travelling around Asia for 3 months and needed a night near Kyoto station before catching a train to Tokyo the next morning. After slumming it out in some places, we decided to raise our budget and spent just under £100 for 1 night at plaza hotel. Before our experience at plaza we have had... More

It's not a luxurious hotel but I am happy with the rate and the location. Location- its just across a Mall thats behind the JR Kyoto Train Station. Its a 10 minute walk to the Kyoto train station passing thru AEON mall. They say is 200 meters. Behind the hotel is Toji Temple a 10 minute walk. A beautiful Temple... More

If you are looking for an American hotel, this is not for you. If you want the Japanese experience, then this is perfect! We really enjoyed it! By American standards it is very small. The bathroom is kind of like what you would have on a cruise ship. You have to "step up" into it. It has the traditional Japanese... More

I picked this hotel because of price and location to the JR trains. It was about a ten minute walk. It was a small room but we had selected the semi double so expectations across japan are that you do not get a big room unless you pay for it. The bed was a bit hard and the pillow small... More

Stayed for 2 nights. The rooms are very small but very clean and good enough for two people. Bath is small too but they have a good public bath. Breakfast was excellent too. Way better than a cheap american continental breakfast. Staff is very friendly. I left some luggage there and they even shipped it back to me for free.

Staying in Southern Kyoto

Neighborhood Profile
Southern Kyoto
Southern Kyoto has a reserved air. Though the Fushimi Inari Shrine is one of Kyoto's major tourist attractions, the surrounding nature, parks, gardens, temples, and shrines provide less-visited spaces for strolling and reflection. The Fushimi Inari Shrine itself is made up of 32,000 sub-shrines, and the mountain they are dotted across beckons hikers, picnickers, and lovers of the outdoors. Many of the mountain's off-set paths aren't frequented by tourists, and the mountain's serenity can be enjoyed at a leisurely pace. Southern Kyoto is the place to enjoy being outside, and to pay your respects to the ancient architecture and gods of the land that are celebrated here.
