Kyoto has quite convenient public transportation, easy even for non Japanese spoken people, however hotel location still matters, I believe. Sitting in between Shijo and Sanjo, basically you can walk to Karasuma where you will need to spend much time for shopping, dining or exploring small alleys. Room size is not great, but not tiny either. You don't need to... More

We got our room for a fair price through the hotel web site. Our standard room was smallish and stylish with all the amenities we required. The hotel was busy when we visited but they had two separate spaces for breakfast so no issues there. Very good service including concierge who helped in getting a table in a busy Michelin... More

This is a top-notch hotel. The room was well-appointed, clean, and nicely-decorated. The location is terrific. The only drawback was the stained rug. I am sure the rug was clean but the stain did detract from the overall impression of the room.

Great stay, good location, very nice rooms. I think they have the nicest decorate elevators I've ever seen. We booked 4 months in advance on Expedia ( $110 CAD for a room with a queen bed, the Superior Double) and found it was a much better rate than booking online with the hotel itself. The staff at the hotel was... More

Very helpful english speaking staff. Rooms a bit small, however we had one of the largest bed I ever saw. Great location, only minutes from subway and bus station...across the street. By taxi it's about $13 to Kyoto Station. Ask for restaurant map at front desk. We had dinner at Enclave Restaurant inside Hotel...one of the BEST meals in Japan... More

Centrally located and very convenient. Rooms are on the small side but not uncomfortably so. They are also well equipped, super clean and very nicely decorated. The staff are very friendly and go out of their way to help with anythin.

The hotel is easy to go from subway station. Convenient store and supermarket are about 5 minutes walk. I had a triple room. The room size is OK for me with such a good price. The bed are comfortable for me but it would be better if extra pillow was in the room. However, the air conditioner was not well... More

Nice sized rooms, great service, and the Monterey's multiple day discount makes this hotel a deal in a place where you'll want to spend 4+ days. Close to transportation and an easy walk to restaurants that belie the idea that it is always expensive to eat out in Japan. Eschew the hotel buffet and eat breakfast at Cafe Paul.Tired of... More

The reception and bar are rather grand and misleading as the rooms are distinctly average. Bold maroon coloured walls, tired bathroom, barely enough room to walk around the large bed and a grotty view. A good location for sightseeing and the staff are friendly but not what I was expecting upstairs!

The room felt particularly small for a hotel in Japan. The bathroom was cramped and the room layout was not ideal for me. With my suitcase on the ground, I felt like I was stumbling over it, chairs, and the small table provided. The location is absolutely great! There are also 2 Starbucks nearby for those who fancy it. I... More
