Really good hotel in a great location close to Nishi market and subway stations. Lovely rooms. Best deals were made direct through hotel website, and we got 5 nights for 4. My advice is really not to book the overpriced breakfast, which is where they make back the money. Really poor selection and closes at 9.30am. Two Starbucks,MacDonald's and a... More

We travelled here for a four night stay to explore Kyoto. Location was handy for tube, or exploring this grid city on foot. We booked a twin room through hotel.com about six weeks in advance and seem to have got a great room only deal for this hotel. Room was unexpectedly big and comfortable, we had two large firm single... More

Overalls recommend to everyone, They use car-parking system, which time consumes. There is Onsen on top of the hotel. The couples can enjoy separate bath and then join in the lounges for panoramic views and some drink.

Monterrey was well located with easy access to the Imperial Palace, and smack in between the key areas of Arashimaya, Kinkakujin (Golden Pavilion) in the west, and Gion, Ginkakujin and Fushimi Inari in the east/south. It was only about a 10 minute subway ride from Kyoto Station, and the exit (take exit No.6) at Karasuma Oike was not even a... More

Why would you choose this hotel: Location and rooms. Really close to the public transit (subway), really close to Starbucks and other cafes and eateries, comfortable, modern rooms. Why wouldn't you choose this hotel: A little further walk to the Ginza and downtown shopping (10 - 20 minutes) and no room service. Bonuses: free, fast wifi and spa (with mineral... More

The location is good - just a couple of minutes walk from a subway station and just a few stops to Kyoto Station. Walk east and you're in the restaurant district, and further east it's a nice stroll to Gion. Grab the subway and bus pass (Y2000 for 2 days) to make travel easy. Our room was small, and with... This hotel, part of a Japanese chain, offers comfortable accommodations, and, most important in Japan, an excellent concierge service that makes restaurant reservations and provides helpful advice on many issues. The hotel is centrally located close to subways and the train station. Extensive breakfast.

Very comfortable and superb location! For ¥2100 you can make us of the sports facilities opposite the hotel including a 25m pool which was nice on a rainy afternoon for doing laps. Not the pool you take kids to. Rooms were small but comfy and clan. Would definitely return. For breakfast head into the street opposite of the hotel and... More

For me, location is critical. I thought the Hotel Monterey was very well located and was a great home base for our adventures in Kyoto. The rooms are a bit dated but extremely clean. The hotel is more British than Asian and it was a bit strange to find a church inside the hotel. Service was excellent and I would... More

I stayed here for only one night, whole hotel was full (they took groups). The location is ok, 5~10 mins (or more) walk to the subway/shopping area. not much restaurants nearby. The front desk was efficient. The room was really small but with a comfortable size of bathroom, bad thing: could see stains on wall and stains on the chair........ More
