I stayed in this Ryokan for 1 night in November. I choose this place after some positive reviews that I had read, but unfortunately I didn't get the experience that I was hoping for. Firstly, the location of the Ryokan is fantastic. It's in this little lane way and it's really close to the shops and places of interest like... more

We loved the place as soon as we walked in. The room was huge and it lead to a beautiful garden. The best was the bath/shower, we really enjoyed it. I agree with one of the reviewers that the dinner was too much, not only in quantity but there is only so much fish that you can eat. All in... more

I was so excited about our first time staying in a ryokan... but I'm afraid I was sorely disappointed with the Tamahan. Now I'm looking through other reviews and photos and I think perhaps we just got a really bad deal... I see that one other reviewer had the same experience as us. Clearly, not all rooms are equal and... more

My husband and i picked Japan for our honeymoon and we were planning to stay in kyoto for 3 nights. One of the things that our friend kept telling us was to stay in one of those traditional hotels (called Ryokans) in Kyoto. So i looked through trip advisor many many times and read most of the reviews and decided... more

I slept here just the night before my writing and so the remember of Tamahan is again fresh and clear. A very wonderful and traditional Ryokan in pure japanese style in the very heart of Gion, so the best place in Kyoto if you want to visit temple. The room was very clean, not a huge room, aaccording to japanese... more

We rely heavily on TripAdvisor to choose where we stay, and in this case we were excited about the rave reviews of beautiful and spacious rooms and the photos of elegant seating areas overlooking glorious gardens. We didn't focus on one reviewer's ominous warning that some guests reported rooms that were demonstrably inferior to the rest. We were shocked to... more

What we loved about the Tamahan: our own personal Japanese bath the kaiseki meals personal rock garden What we didn't love: lack of privacy, thin walls location a little dirty (they need to wipe down the door knobs and the walls) A good way to experience the ryokan experience. At $525 / night, it was on the pricey side for... more

The good: - gorgeous, traditional tatami room (large for a ryokan) opening onto an equally beautiful garden. It was like a dream walking into the room and having them seat us on our own "porch" by the garden, then serve us tea and a snack. - huge dinner with interesting items. Actually, the dinner was a little too huge -... more

Following a very modern weekend in a Tokyo hotel, we decided that we wanted a more traditional Japanese experience staying in Kyoto. I researched and booked this ryokan through recommendations and the opinions of travellers on this website - and we were not disappointed!! Tamahan is not a cheap option but the price includes a huge evening meal and extensive... more

I stayed 2 nights with my wife booked through the web site : Japanese guest houses. It was a delightful experience. We had traveled from Tokyo by the Shinkansen Nozomi and after 10 min. taxi we arrived at the hotel for a welcome tea. We had fantastic food, and a nice two-rooms with view on a little garden. And the... more
