I stayed at Tamahan Ryokan for three nights with my mother. It costed us 1280USD/820GBP. I have stayed in a Japanese Ryokan in Kyoto before and enjoyed it very much, so I brought my mother for a ryokan experience. The facility of Tamahan was good. Everything was clean and we had our own toilet+bathroom. But there were some annoying details... More

We were really looking forward to a genuine Ryokan experience but we're hugely disappointed with the Tamahan Ryokan. Our stay for two nights was 1000 USD / 650 GBP and for the money we got very little. A traditional Ryokan is supposed to be all about impeccable service of which we received none. The staff were unhelpful and very un... More

In this lovely little place we spent two nights. The traditional rooms were comfortable and had nice views on the little garden in front. We also enjoyed the traditional dinner which was served by a lovely lady trying her utmost to serve us wel. Being near some temples we were lucky to stumble upon the yearly festival with its parades... More

We spent 2 nights at this little oasis in Kyoto, close to many sites and restaurants but at the same time tucked away in a quiet street. Friendly efficient staff. Lovely room overlooking a garden. Wonderful breakfast served in our room. We wished we could of stayed longer but our visit was short.

The hospitality of the owners and staff, the beauty of the gardens, the serenity of the rooms, and the perfect location in Kyoto make this an incredible place to stay. Very romantic and a lovely hideaway. It's extremely expensive but if you want to do something very special and authentically traditional in Kyoto, this is the place to go.

This ryokan was rated as one of the top in Kyoto so it was on top of our list and price was not an issue for us. The location is fantastic, on a quiet street in the middle of historical area of Kyoto. It is small and feels very private. Rooms are generous size and we had a room opening... More

We stayed at Tamahan for two nights. Like all ryokans in Kyoto it is not cheap but is worth the splurge for the experience for a night or two. In addition we found this ryokan very reasonably priced compared to many of the other options in Kyoto. The inn has a great location in the hills on the eastern side... More

Tamahan was the first ryokan we stayed at during our two week trip to Japan in April. I knew the price was 25,000 yen (per person), close to $500 US. If you did not have the kaiseki dinner, the price was closer to $375 US, so that's what I reserved. I changed my mind as we have a friend in... More

We stayed at this ryokan for one night on our fantastic trip to Kyoto and Tokyo. The ryokan is in a beautiful old neighbourhood of Kyoto, so 5/5 for location! The welcome is all Japan-style: warm and with a cup of tea. However, the room and facilities are extremely simple and old fashioned (and not the charming kind of old... More

This is an interesting Ryokan in Kyoto. Situated in a small and narrow lane it is an eclectic arrangement of rooms, sparsely furnished with no beds. But it is Japan. Tall people beware as a taller mamber of our four was almost scalped walking down the hall way. Our room was a single space with a low table and some cushions.... More
