We joined the Yoshikawa to have dinner (we did not rest there!) and the experience was great. A very small tempura bar ( only allowing 12 people eating!) and the service and food were amazing. A unique experience!!!!!

This knocks most Western five star establishments into a cocked hat. I have never felt so welcome and looked after anywhere in the world except my own family home! The staff are traditionally dressed, adding to the atmosphere, and no matter what time you meet them are gracious, kind and welcoming. I really can't emphasise enough how lovely they are... More

We landed here by chance on the recommendation of the concierge at the Hyatt Regency. It was simply an awesome experience. It was only one night, including dinner and breakfast. Amazing food. Fun and laughter as the staff are simply great people who are there to enjoy the experience as much as yourself. Air con exceptional in our room. We... More

We started our trip off in Kyoto and fell in love with the Yoshikawa Inn. You feel the tradition and hospitality of the Japanese from the first instance. They always remember which shoe is yours, you are greeted with tea on arrival back to the hotel every day. Their simple rooms are refreshing and if I didn't sleep on them... More

We booked a room at Yoshikawa Inn for two nights because we wanted to experience staying in a traditional ryokan. We loved it so much, we decided to extend our stay for another four nights. We had a large room on the first floor overlooking a small Japanese garden. This is a traditional ryokan and the rooms have tatami floors... More

Sakura 2014 trip Second night in Kyoto we stayed at Yoshikawa Inn. Clearly aimed more at foreigners than other Ryokan we stayed in. The strengths: Perfect central location Lovely central garden and views (it seems) from most rooms Charming staff Perfectly maintained infrastructure Lovely 100 year old building that is both modern in the amenities yet has maintained the Ryokan... We stayed one night at Yoshikawa and wished we could have been there longer. First, it was one of the best night's sleeps I've ever had! If you don't stay at the Inn, at least go there for the food. The tempura is amazing. Instead of eating in our room (as is typical in a ryokan), we asked to eat... More

Staying at this inn was the highlight of our 3-week trip to Japan. Hands down. The women who work there were out-of-control sweet. We had no problem communicating even though we speak no Japanese -- they handled everything in English. Their traditional breakfasts and dinners were delicious and extensive (more than we could eat, actually) and we were allowed to... More

I wanted to stay at the Yoshikawa Inn as I wanted the true Ryokan experience in Kyoto. I was unable to book online as there didn't appear to be an e-mail address on the website. I ended up phoning and booking over the phone. My e-mail address was lost in translation so I got the confirmation e-mail very late after... More

This ryokan wasn't actually on our radar until our hotel concierge suggested it when we failed to get bookings for our initial choices - and are we glad he did. Yoshikawa is located just off a big busy road (we even went out shopping on the first afternoon of our stay and after we checked out); yet, despite being so... More
