We have just spent 3 nights at Shimizu ryokan and we've enjoyed our stay a lot. Our room was big, clean, with its private bathroom and air conditioning. Bath and bedlinens were changed daily and everything was just perfect. It was nice going back there after long days of visit of the city. The owner and his family were helpful,... More

This ryokan exceeded all our expectations -- from onsen every night to free souvenir items before we leave -- that will help us remember Kyoto at her finest. The location - 5-minute walk to Kyoto Station - is amazing. The excellent services we received from the staff truly reflects what Japanese hospitality means! Will definitely go back here next time... This ryokan is really a good choice for first time ryokan traveller like us. Because the staff, the facility was give a good impression of japanese traditional accomodation. They also have modern western style bathroom and toilet. So we can taste japanese sleep with western facility. Enjoy!

Extremely welcoming Ryokan, very conveniently located not far from the Shinkansen train station. 10-15 minutes walk if I remember well. Great place to live a great Japanese cultural experience with futon beds, plastic casted bathrooms and tatamis :) Loved it. Walls are a bit thin so it's better if you have quiet next door guests.

We could only stay one night here as they were booked out. Easy walk from Kyoto station and close to some attractions. Great traditional rooms with the bonus of ensuite. Excellent service especially informative maps showing walking and transport options. Upon returning to our room after a long afternoons walk exploring Kyoto we were surprised by a knock at our... GETTING THERE: When we first arrived in Kyoto station, despite being so close to the Ryokan, having a few heavy luggage bags, we had to take a taxi to this place. Although this place was literally like a fifteen-minute walking/less than ten minute driving distance from Kyoto station, none of the taxi drivers that we asked knew about Ryokan Shimizu.... More

This is my second time staying in Ryokan Shimizu. Still remember the place, no need for a map. LOL. I first stayed there in 2013, occupying first floor room, for three people. This time, I got a room on the 2nd floor, for two people. Room is spacious compared to Tokyo's hotels, clean and comfortable. AC works both ways, for... More

I recently stayed at Ryokan Shimizu with my 11 year old son. This was our first trip to Japan and our first stay in a Ryokan. Both my son and I enjoyed it tremendously. I wouldn't hesitate to stay at a Ryokan again. The rooms are very nice and the staff/family was extremely helpful and friendly. Some of the nice... More

Very warm (literally) and welcoming ryokan with very attentive hosts who went out of their way to look after us during a cold February stay in Kyoto: hot tea when we returned from a chilly day of touring; chilled water when we overheated in the Japanese bath; umbrellas when it was raining. Our room was clean and comfortable and had... More

Great little ryokan close to Kyoto Station. Clean and comfortable and close to transport and some very good places to eat. The hosts were very polite and helpful. Offered good advise for getting around and seeing the sights of Kyoto and made sure the bath was ready for us in the evening. Very nice indeed. The walls are thin so... More
