Ryoken Shimizu is located a shirt 5 minute walk from Kyoto Station on the Kyoto tower side. We arrived a little early but were escorted to our upstairs room. The room was excellent and just what we hoped and very traditional with the modern twist of an on suite bathroom and shower. We stayed for 5 nights and our hosts... More

Possibly the best sleep we had in our whole two week trip to Japan. Three of us in a large room with ensuite facilities, all very clean and comfortable. Also very quiet in terms of noise from other guests, especially compared to other Ryokans we stayed in. Staff were very friendly, welcoming, helpful and also accommodating with leaving bags. We... we were anxious about trying out a ryokan. But this was a great and easy transition from the western amenities. Easy waking distance from Kyoto station. Need to get specific directions, though. Very clean comfortable accommodations, courteous staff.. They speak english! Staff had an activities night .... origami, japanese calligraphy..... onsen was not crowded, gender specific, very private!

This place is not really a traditional ryokan. It's actually pretty westernized. However, it is a very decent place to stay in. It is super cheap, clean, and within walking distance from Kyoto Station, so that's great. Also, the staff speaks great English and are very helpful and friendly. There are too many rules than I could care for –... More

The Ryokan Shimizu is a traditional Japanese inn. It is conveniently located on a quiet sidestreet not far from Kyoto Station - about a 10 minute walk. There is at least one grocery store along the suggested route. The front desk staff can communicate in English, which is great! They are uniformly friendly. Because it is a traditional inn, you... 5 days in Kyoto with 2 teenagers (15 &17). The team was just lovely and very helpful. The place is cosy and well located between Nishi and Higashi Honganji not far from the station (but far enough) . I enjoyed very much the opportunity to meet locals at evenings special events. Thank you so much to the team. Akemashite omedeto... More

It's right in the center of Kyoto, about 5 minutes from the shin kaizen train station, surrounded by temples and historical places. The place is neat, your room has a separate shower and bathroom, with the classic tatami in the floor. The Classic Japanese layout for a bedroom. I highly recommend this place, it's down to earth, cozy and cool... More

My friend and I loved everything about this place: the staff, the room, the service, the atmosphere. It was just awesome. The best sleep I've had in a long, long time. The staff spoke excellent English and were incredibly friendly and helpful. The location couldn't be better - a quiet residential street a couple blocks away from the Kyoto Station.... More

Ryokan in Kyoto can be very pricey. Ryokan Shimizu provides a wonderful traditional ryokan experience at an exceptionally good price. The front desk service is wonderfully friendly and helpful, and the breakfast is a must. Make sure to check out their food recommendations nearby.

My wife and I loved our time at the Ryokan Shimizu. The staff spoke very good English and were able to recommend good places to eat near the inn. The location is also good, being about two blocks from the main train station. We would definitely stay here again.
