We only stayed at this hotel for one night, when our itinerary changed and we couldn't book the extra night at the hotel we had our original booking with. We actually liked this hotel better than the one we moved to the following day. This was a good, clean hotel with friendly, helpful staff. The twin room was a reasonable... More

The Hotel is superclean and elegantly decorated. The reception staff is polite and helpful. There were yukatas (traditional Japanese clothing) waiting on our beds - this is part of the amenities offered by hotels in Japan. The bathroom was very clean and well equipped. Smoking is allowed only on the patio of the 3rd floor, which, was convenient for me... More

Stay here if you like floor-hard beds, worn out carpeting, rattling refrigerator, poorly cooked western-type breakfasts, and waiting to even get a table for breakfast. Not much around the area either. Creepingly slow wifi. Trying to compliment something, anything, but can't.

When me and my husbang returned from dinner we place our jewelries including our wedding rings in the vanity table in the room. I slept at around 12 am and my husband slept at around 2am. When we woke up, we realized that those were gone. Someone with a master key sneaked or got inside our room to steal those... More

A short stay but fairly comfortable with a nice long bath and big rooms. Staff were friendly and helped us to take buses to the nearest shopping street and walk to Gion area. The hotel is near to the subway and bus stops for the main areas. There are coffee shops nearby.

The hotel staff were professional and courteous. The lobby, breakfast and 13th floor spa were lovely but the rooms were small (even by Japanese standards) with worn, stained carpeting and uncomfortable beds.

This hotel is within walking distance from Gojo station, which is one stop away on the subway from JR Kyoto Station. If you are carrying huge heavy luggage, you will be required to lug it up 2-3 flights of stairways to the ground level, before walking about 200 meters to the hotel. Once we were there, the staffs only knows... More

The staff was tremendously accommodating to us, although there was no one English-speaking. Even when there was a mistake from my booking through Expedia and two rooms were booked, they cancelled the other room without much struggle or delay. I was so grateful! My trip would've been ruined if I had to pay for both. The breakfast was delicious and... More

This hotel does not particularly cater very well for English speaking guests. The rooms were also quite basic when compared with other hotels we stayed in Japan and the breakfast was very poor. Also a fair way from the JR station and not a lot happening around the hotel. Overall not able to recommend this hotel.

Location: Average. It requires you to travel 1 subway stop from the main station, and it's not within walking distance of any other major attraction. So location gets only average. Ambience: Average. Feeling and ambience too are average: very clean area, clean building. New lobby but nothing special. Rooms: Average. They are clean (ours had a stained carpet), beds are... More

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighborhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
