We originally booked a two night stay with our 2 year old daughter. Rooms are dated with poor ventilation. We returned from dinner to bad cigarette smell. We were moved to a room that wasn't much better. Got room service in the morning and wasn't cooked properly with raw sausages and eggs. Checked out and moved hotels after that. Staff... More

This hotel has been generating a lot of mixed reviews lately and the negative reviews focus on the age of the property. Sure, the hotel is a bit old and the decor needs to catch up to the current tastes but I cannot use that against it. The hotel is located near the subway which makes it easy to hop... More

I've stayed for the first time in this Westin Miyako, after having trying the Sheraton Miyako in Osaka, that was also very old and not at the SPG standard. Now the Westin, in Kyoto. The position is. Other so good for business, maybe better for holiday, as it is far from the Kyoto station (I needed around 20 minutes of... More

My son who uses a power wheelchair was checking out Kyoto for his webpage Accessible Japan.com We chose this hotel for its location close to Philosophers Walk. Hotel is close to subway. It met all the criteria of shower chair and space to navigate a room. Hotel excels in space and washroom but room seems shabby and carpet was quite... More

We stayed at the Westin in Kyoto in January and we enjoyed our stay. The location is perfect and you can walk to many temples and restaurants or take a cab which is reasonable. Parts of the hotel are dated and there is unused space in areas where the pool is that are weird and not very attractive. The breakfast... More

The Westin Kyoto is our 2nd hotel in Kyoto. Locate in the quiet hill and you can overview the kyoto in the Club lounge. They upgrade my room when I check in. Near many temple and hill. This hotel also have the free shuttle bus to station and Gion.

Great views of the mountains and Kyoto skyline. In reference to the previous graveyard comments; Yes, we could see some gravestones in the far distance, but none of us had any nightmares! Good in-room wi-fi, super comfortable beds and spacious room. We weren't thrilled about the charge imposed for the use of the hotel pool (which, we thought, should have... More

As a SPG member I booked this property originally for 3 days, at the rate of 36.000 JPY per night (around 350 USD). Check-in: Rude, lack of attention. Was told I have been upgraded, but the room will be ready in 4 hours !! Room: First room: horrible, smelly and looked more like a 1960's horror movie scene. I complained... More

An excellent choice for business and sightseeing in Kyoto. This hotel has a shuttle to Kyoto station. However, by taking the subway at Keiage station and change at JR Yamashina, you can get to Kyoto station and Osaka in no time. A visit to the nearby Nanzenji is a must. It is one of the best Zen temples. A walk... More

Staying in City Center

Neighborhood Profile
City Center
No district of Kyoto is quite as representative of its blended nature as the City Center. By day, the covered shopping arcades along Kawaramachi and Shijo Street bring deal hunters and fashionistas out in droves to peruse the clothing, accessories, gifts, and home goods offerings. When it grows dark, the City Center is a hip spot for nightlife, alive with bars and clubs. A trendy culinary scene and an abundance of local watering holes give the Center its youthful vibrancy. In contrast, the quieter areas of the City Center seem a world away, shielded from noise by the foliage of the public gardens and zen spaces surrounding the area's shrines, castles, and the Imperial Palace. These ancient and sacred spots are seamlessly folded into the scenery, providing a respite from the energy of the city, but close enough to put you directly back onto the pulse of the city when you're ready.
