This hotel is extremely easy to reach, travelling a couple of stops on the Karasuma line from Kyoto Station. This means if you have travelled on the Shinkansen to get to Kyoto, it is extremely convenient. The room was large and clean, the bathroom was quite small but adequate for our needs. There are a couple of restaurants downstairs just... More

I chose this hotel because of its proximity to the train station - Shijo Station. I arrived earlier than the check in time and the staff were kind enough to accommodate and take my backpack. Without even asking for one, they provided me map of the city - nice of them. Even helped me find an ATM which accepts foreign... More

The staff is very friendly and helpful. The room is, as expected, very, very clean. There is an instant teamaker in the room, and the green tea is refilled every day. The bathroom is refilled every day with amenities such as tooth brushes, foldable comb, cotton wool, shower cap, hair bands etc. There is a big closet with a light... More

Check-in process was flawless, our room was for Japanese standard good sized. Bathroom was very small - also for JP standards. The location of the hotel is perfect, right in the middle of the center of Kioto. Metro is only a couple meters by foot - there are lots of restaurants nearby. Breakfast was okay but expensive. All in all... More

We had never been to Japan previously and this was the first hotel we used during a train trip around several areas of the country. The room was one of the largest we used during our trip, there were lots of items (toothbrush, toothpaste, razor, combination brush/comb, a robe which was called 'pyjamas', shampoo and conditioner, hair dryer and more).... Spent a few nights at this hotel and was very happy with the accommodation. Front desk staff were friendly and very helpful. Location was quite good - in between two metro stops, and around the corner from a main bus stop. Would stay here again if I returned to Kyoto.

Clean and centrally located to shopping and subway station. The staff speak a little English and are helpful with directions. The breakfast buffet had a nice assortment of Japanese dishes and continental dishes. There was an omelet station that was a surprise. There's a Starbucks next door. There's a vendor in front with sushi bentos and another vendor with assorted... More

But everything else we liked. We weren't in the room much anyway because so much to do. The location was great and so was the Wi-Fi. Our breakfast was not included so we walked to the local McDonald's for coffee and breakfast in the am. Location was great as metro, buses and lots of shopping very close. We walked most... More

Nice place to stay in Kyoto. Near metro station, just 2 stations away from Kyoto Station, and 1.5 km from Gion quartel. Good breakfast with many options, including japanese traditional breakfast. Room bigger than average ones. Doesn't seem a 3* hotel! There's a starbucks outside the main entrance, to sip some coffee!

The hotel really needs a facelift - other than a flat panel TV and the bidet toilet seat, everything in the room felt like from the 80's. However, the room is clean. Bathroom is very tiny and the ceiling of the bathroom is very low too - If you are a tall person like me you will find it a... More

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighborhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
