The price and location make this a great hotel but there are a few sticking points you should be aware of before choosing to book here. Right next to the Shijo station, it's a quick ride over to get to from Kyoto station on the subway. The hotel is also right next to the intersection of Shijo-Dori and Karasuma-Dori, plopping... More

I stayed here 2 nights with a friend during a week trip to Japan, and we checked in and the guy who checked us in seemed annoyed but it was later at night (at about 10pm) and we know, Americans are wierd to them so I can't say it bothered me a lot. We got up and had our breakfast... More

Very near subway station and Gion district. Could not be easier. Room quite cramped. Despite my request to be placed in a non-smoking room, I am sure this was a smoking room judged by the smell. Front desk assured me it was non-smoking but I doubt it.

Modern and well built, this is a comfortable hotel to stay in whilst visiting Kyoto. Staff are friendly and helpful, and the reception desk people will help you with your luggage. Rooms are a little smallish, but actually bigger than any of the other hotel rooms I have stayed in in Japan. One issue is that WIFI does not work... More

The location is the real gold ticket here! A few meters from the station, two blocks from the fanciest shop street and just 2 stops away from Kyoto central station. The room is small but ok, the bathroom is probably the main issue, almost like a cabin, very tiny. Apart from that the staff is nice, and the hotel itself... More

Okay first of all, people needs to understand that in Japan, most of their rooms are small (even their houses!) and food portions. This hotel is under Kyoto Hotel Group - very Japanese! The size of our room was never an issue and it was expected. Lucky us that our room was CLEAN - no odor, whatsoever. TV shows are... More

Among the not so expensive hotel (or capsule) that I have stayed so far, this room has the highest score from me. For single person, room is big enough (if you travel to Japan as a budget traveler, you may find this room space is normal). Shower facilities, bed, air flow of the room and smell are all great. This... More

If an hotel was rated by location alone then Karasuma Kyoto would top the list. Centrally located within a few metres of a subway station, it allows for easy access to the transport options for exploring Kyoto. We walked to the stunning Kyoto main station on a couple of occasions as an alternative to the subway and it was a... More

We are a family of four . You can't fault the location as this hotel is so centrally located within the main Kyoto shopping area which was within a 5 mins walk and a subway station literally a few feet away from the hotel . There is even a Starbucks connected to the hotel lobby. Cafés and restaurants are aplenty... More

Old hotel, no Wifi in room, a bathroom more than small, TV without international channels except for BBC and its Chinese equivalent, and absolutly no double bed. Except for the location, don't get there.
