This hotel was very convienent to shopping, eatting and all modes of transportation. The room was quite adequate, although a little small but that is the norm. The bathroom was very small, but again adequate. We stayed in a bit larger room b/c we had 2 twin beds and we were on the 12th floor. I think being on the... more
This was the only hotel available in the lowest category of the Sunrise Tour we booked through Japanican. We took the subway two stops from the station, then climbed the stairs out the exit the hotel suggested and headed the wrong way--if you use this exit just go straight when you reach the street and it is just a few... more
This was my third stay at this hotel, as part of a Sunrise Tour. Our twin-room (3226) on the 12th floor overlooked the busy Karasuma dori. I anticipated (correctly) that the room would be too hot so at check-in asked for the large window to be opened/unlocked. This helped alot. I'd actually venture that the room wasn't heated to quite... more
English - the staff spoke some english and was able to communicate. Very accomodating. Internet - this is a joke, there are two computers located in the lobby with Japanese Windows and a Japanese keyboard. If you need to print anything, you need to go to the FedexKinkos two blocks up the street. Buffet Breakfast - 'pass' I suppose, fairly... more
My wife and I stayed here one night as part of an overnight do-it-yourself tour package from Sunrise Tours that included a round trip bullet train trip from Tokyo to Kyoto and back. This hotel was the one that came with the cheapest package, so I was a bit concerned. However, the hotel turned out to be quite decent and... more
The Karasuma is very well located for travellers to Kyoto, with a subway station steps away from the front door, and a couple of blocks away from Kyoto's main shopping district. The Starbucks in the lobby is also helpful for breakfasts, and provides a well-attended meeting space on its patio. Staff at the hotel are very helpful, and the rooms... more
We stayed here for 3 nights as a part of a holiday around Japan. Location was excellent, within walking distance of main attractions and tube very close by. Rooms appeared a little dated but to be honest this wasn't an issue - we were barely in them other than to sleep. Restaurants weren't much to talk about but then we... more
Excellent Location- junction of Shijo and Karasuma- only 5 mins from the main train station. Rooms were on the small size but adequate- all manner of toileteris you need were supplied. didn't eat in the hotel but theres a startbucks down stairs and shijo street is FULL of restaurants and bars. hotel was clean and reasonably priced. but the location... more
The Karasuma Kyoto Hotel is in a great location just steps from the subway exit. It is just a block from a great shopping district. The hotel is clean and the staff was very helpful. The hotel is older but very well maintained and safe. There is a Starbucks in the lobby which I found very convienent since I speak... more
