We are a group of backpackers consisting first timers and a few not so experienced. Due to the last minute change in flight we expected to reach kyoto earlier and was out of option for rooms in kyoto. This Ryokan was the only one that still posting rooms available. Yes, ROOMs. We book a few rooms as the group we... More

I'm really disappointed by this hotel, it's not a ryokan. The owner is absolutely not friendly and not helpful. Our room had no window and look like a closet. Bathroom is really poor and not convenient. And it's noisy ! Really noisy. Wall are so thin that we can hear our neigbhor snoring as they sleep on the same room.... More

We are a group of 8 friends, really bad experience with this Ryokan Otho. We have booked this place for 3 rooms, and we arrived there around 6.30pm. First of all, we found this hotel was difficult to located, and the place was unlikely. But what we shocked is the same lady from previous comments told us only has one room... More

This Ryokan is really bad, please trust the earlier reviews. The guest house owner is quite unfriendly. There are no drinking water facilities, unlike other places in Japan generally. when my friends requested for it, the lady insisted that the water dispenser is not in working order. The rooms are cold and dingy. Although my experience was not as bad... More

Please do me one favour: Don’t make the same mistake! I booked this ryokan, because it was quite cheap and there was no other hotel offered in this price range for this period of time. Actually I read all the reviews of former guests, but I thought it couldn’t be that bad. But this really was a huge mistake. The... More

We had the same experiencecas the couple with ghe long rewiew before us. Pouring rain, end of December, late at night we arrived at this so called "Ryokan". The entrance looked shabby, dirty and not welcoming at all. The frlnt desk lady covered in several coats, hats and jackets spoke no English at all. Insisted to pay first, we were... More

I am not a big reviewer, but I do not want any other foreign traveler to experience what my wife and I went through. It was our first trip to Japan and we loved everything about it. Our reservation experience and the Ryokan Ohto inn keeper was our only negative moment. In a country that is so respectful and kind,... More

we arrived and found out that they overbooked two rooms. I had to share a room with another person and two other people had to stay in a room with no bathroom. (originally we paid for a room with a bathroom.) One night no water coming from anywhere. We could not flash toilets or take shower. No where to find... More

Stayed here for three nights with husband and teenage son. Room was perfectly sized for us and had a little balcony also. Bathroom was a tight squeeze but adequate. It is well located just off the main tourist drag but connections are close by. Enjoyed eating in the neighbourhood cafés and restaurants and used the laundromat. Owner was reserved but... More

This is a reasonable, well located ryokan. Don't expect anything fancy. The bathroom and toilet are down the hall, the walls are paper thin and our room had no window. Nonetheless, we stayed there for 4 nights in September and have few regrets. It is on a subway line and a busy bus line. It is close to the train... More
