I usually only book budget hotels with Hearton being one of the best rates I could find at the time, but it ended up being a very nice hotel. The staff was professional and kind. The lobby and main areas were quite spacious and elegant. The room was very small, but at least average or a touch larger than other... More

We stayed in a triple room on the top floor (nice view of nearby hills) for six nights at beginning of August 2015. Small room (but bigger than one in previous hotel in Tokyo that cost much more). Very well cleaned each day. Good Wi-Fi. Air conditioning was good but could have been a touch cooler. Fridge in room. About... More

Stayed for 8 nights...thought it was going to be pretty rubbish as the price was low and it was the middle of July, but was pleasantly surprised. Was greeted on check-in by a lady in a yukata (always happy to see ladies in kimono). My room was pretty big for Japan and even included an almost full size bath tub.... More

We were able to walk from the hotel to the former imperial palace grounds and also to the Gion area. We found nice restaurants, including Paul’s, a French bakery, only a few blocks away. Subway lines were nearby. We enjoyed the breakfast buffet at the hotel and found the lunch buffet very reasonable. At lunch we had a choice of... More

This hotel is on the junction of the two main subway lines and is only a 1200 yen taxi ride from the city train station and many of the Kyoto attractions. You can easily walk to Gion or the Imperial Palace. The rooms were a decent size by Japanese standards. The western style cafe was excellent value, with a breakfast... More

I spent 2 nights here recently and found it to be a great hotel. The room was small but had everything you needed. The bed was comfortable snd the water was hot. I am not sure what else you need for a place to sleep! The staff is great and very helpful. When you get there ask the front desk... More

The hotel is in a good location and friendly. The room was nice, maybe not quite as smart and modern as it could have been but big. It's a shame smoking is allowed in some areas. The breakfast was good with queues sometimes but not a long wait. Just fine.

We stayed here as 6 friends in 3 rooms. The twin rooms are spacious and well appointed but a little dated. The hotel is pretty central and the reception sell train and bus tickets and really friendly. Would recommend for the price.

The Hearton is definitely convenient location wise, the subway is right at your doorstep with a quick ride into the city. It is not far to walk to great restaurants or the main shopping district, the buses are also close by to take you to the various attractions. The rooms were clean and tidy, we were moved from a smoking... More

I stayed at Hearton Hotel Kyoto at the peak of the cherry blossom season. Hotels in the city were fully booked and I just took a chance with this hotel. It's located in a straight after the Northeast exit of the Karasuma-oike station. A subway line in Kyoto (not covered by the JR rail pass) but it's just 3 stations... More

Staying in City Center

Neighborhood Profile
City Center
No district of Kyoto is quite as representative of its blended nature as the City Center. By day, the covered shopping arcades along Kawaramachi and Shijo Street bring deal hunters and fashionistas out in droves to peruse the clothing, accessories, gifts, and home goods offerings. When it grows dark, the City Center is a hip spot for nightlife, alive with bars and clubs. A trendy culinary scene and an abundance of local watering holes give the Center its youthful vibrancy. In contrast, the quieter areas of the City Center seem a world away, shielded from noise by the foliage of the public gardens and zen spaces surrounding the area's shrines, castles, and the Imperial Palace. These ancient and sacred spots are seamlessly folded into the scenery, providing a respite from the energy of the city, but close enough to put you directly back onto the pulse of the city when you're ready.
