We were able to walk from the hotel to the former imperial palace grounds and also to the Gion area. We found nice restaurants, including Paul’s, a French bakery, only a few blocks away. Subway lines were nearby. We enjoyed the breakfast buffet at the hotel and found the lunch buffet very reasonable. At lunch we had a choice of... More

This hotel is on the junction of the two main subway lines and is only a 1200 yen taxi ride from the city train station and many of the Kyoto attractions. You can easily walk to Gion or the Imperial Palace. The rooms were a decent size by Japanese standards. The western style cafe was excellent value, with a breakfast... More

I spent 2 nights here recently and found it to be a great hotel. The room was small but had everything you needed. The bed was comfortable snd the water was hot. I am not sure what else you need for a place to sleep! The staff is great and very helpful. When you get there ask the front desk... More

The hotel is in a good location and friendly. The room was nice, maybe not quite as smart and modern as it could have been but big. It's a shame smoking is allowed in some areas. The breakfast was good with queues sometimes but not a long wait. Just fine.

We stayed here as 6 friends in 3 rooms. The twin rooms are spacious and well appointed but a little dated. The hotel is pretty central and the reception sell train and bus tickets and really friendly. Would recommend for the price.

The Hearton is definitely convenient location wise, the subway is right at your doorstep with a quick ride into the city. It is not far to walk to great restaurants or the main shopping district, the buses are also close by to take you to the various attractions. The rooms were clean and tidy, we were moved from a smoking... More

I stayed at Hearton Hotel Kyoto at the peak of the cherry blossom season. Hotels in the city were fully booked and I just took a chance with this hotel. It's located in a straight after the Northeast exit of the Karasuma-oike station. A subway line in Kyoto (not covered by the JR rail pass) but it's just 3 stations... More

This is a great hotel. Good rooms. Large restaurant area. Breakfast buffet had a lot of choices. Location is good - it is a short walk from the subway - the KarasumaOike station. The concierge folks were not that knowledgeable, or maybe they had issues with English. Not sure. A good mid-range hotel to stay in Kyoto. As far as... More

We stayed at the Hearton as part of an Overseas Adventure Travel tour. The location was good and the room and amenities were very satisfactory. The western style breakfast buffet on the main floor got pretty crowded, with all the tour groups -- so we really enjoyed the Japanese style breakfast one floor up. I also liked the coin op... More

The rooms are large by Japanese standards but smaller than American or Asian standards. However, the room is more than adequate if you're spending most of your day outside the room. The bathroom was very clean and the room had all the necessary amenities i.e. hairdryer, fridge, tea/coffee making facilities, in-house radio, and TV. The air-conditioning can be adjusted and... Staying in City Center

Neighborhood Profile
City Center
No district of Kyoto is quite as representative of its blended nature as the City Center. By day, the covered shopping arcades along Kawaramachi and Shijo Street bring deal hunters and fashionistas out in droves to peruse the clothing, accessories, gifts, and home goods offerings. When it grows dark, the City Center is a hip spot for nightlife, alive with bars and clubs. A trendy culinary scene and an abundance of local watering holes give the Center its youthful vibrancy. In contrast, the quieter areas of the City Center seem a world away, shielded from noise by the foliage of the public gardens and zen spaces surrounding the area's shrines, castles, and the Imperial Palace. These ancient and sacred spots are seamlessly folded into the scenery, providing a respite from the energy of the city, but close enough to put you directly back onto the pulse of the city when you're ready.
