I was there during a very busy week in April as most hotels were fully booked when I started checking. I chose Ark hotel as it was one of the available ones with a rate I could afford, however for the price that was not cheap the hotel is not very nice. Its clean and normal size (for japan) but... It`s Location is near to the station ShiJo Omiya and the environment is also silent when the rush hour and the transportation is convenient too, lot of meals around it, old style, not luxury, but character with Japanese local atmosphere. I may choice it next trip to Kyoto.

From the previous reviews I was braced for small and drab. I was pleasantly surprised. My room was fresh well lighted and a bit shiny (808). I am traveling alone so small is not a problem. The front desk was excellent help!! After my long subway/walk/stairs ordeal from Kyoto station. Ark was a soft landing. If you come I recommend... More

If you are looking for a short stay and not spending much time in the room, this hotel is ideal. Space is small but adequate for 2 people. Bathroom needs doing up, it smelt of urine and soggy towels. Handy walking distance to the main street and subway.

Loved Kyoto. This hotel made a good base for exploring the area, being located close to the center of town and on the main bus routes. Unfortunately despite requesting non-smoking, we got the smoking floor - which was somewhat unpleasant. Rooms were a little shabby. New year also restricted the catering options... but the staff were friendly and helpful. And... More

I booked through their own home page as a weekday business package. $55 a night and including a great Japanese style breakfast. A location, a west side of Kyoto( From Kyoto station 20m by bus, 10m by taxi), not close to a touristic area though comfortable enough to get around. A street car station is right nearby, a train station across the street. Many restaurants around. A room, small but good enough to sleep. Overall pretty much reasonable... More

We booked late and not much was available. We were 3 in one room and 2 in one, we could have been 4, if 2 can share each of the queen sized beds. The room was non-smoking and this had not stopped many earlier inhabitants to smoke so the rooms small was not fresh and the windows could not be... More

While the room was tiny, smoky and hot, fortunately, the weather outside was pleasant and we were able to sleep with the window open in March. One lady at the front desk spoke enough English to get by and was very helpful with giving directions via the bus. As we experienced in Osaka, wifi was limited to none. This was... More

Good service, the staff spoke minimal English (seemed like this was the case all over Kyoto). Beds were cardboard hard. Pillows were nice. Great location-- five minute walk to the trains. McDonalds, grocery stores and a few restaurants all within a walking distance. We had four rooms. Room on the fourth floor was non-smoking, but the hallways smelled of cigarettes.... More
