I stayed at the Palace Side with my nephew visiting from America. I can't understand why anyone would find the place special in any particular way. It is clear that the place is managed for maximum profit and that very little money goes into upkeep. Nothing about the hotel is horrible, but it is literally just a cheap place to... More

Encouraged by your readers' reviews we booked directly through the Palace Side Hotel's excellent website, and stayed six nights from 13-19 July 2007. This is probably the best budget hotel I have stayed in on three continents and a dozen countries. Clean, comfortable, and with a range of services and facilities almost unheard-of at this price (6500 Yen per night... More

We stayed here for 4 nights after a very long flight all the way from Montreal. The hotel itself isn't bad. Certainly a good value given the price. I would have given it 4 starts if not some of the inconveniences: - Location isn't bad but not that great either. We were there on Dec 10th - 14th, and it... More

Staying here as a single traveller, and I find it just fine. Not luxurious, but who needs luxurious. I would skip the breakfast buffet. Instead, walk a couple of blocks down the street (just past the subway stop) and pick something up at the Circle K or Family Fare. If, like me, you don't yet read Japanese, you can have... More

Our three-day sightseeing stay in Kyoto at The Palace Side was most enjoyable. The staff members were very welcoming, friendly and most helpful. The rooms were very clean and comfortable and reasonably priced. Although the rooms may be on smaller side they were adequate for us. The availability of internet access in the comfortable lobby area was a much appreciated... More

Friends in Japan recommended the Palace Side and we were really happy with our decision. Here are some specifics: LOCATION *Kyoto is bigger than we expected and most locations are best reached by bus. A convenient bus station is located within a few minute's walk (which is good by Kyoto standards). An earlier poster complained about the location - we... More

We stayed at the Palaceside Hotel in May 2007 for 6 nights, mum, dad, 2 kids (6 & 11 yrs). We got a triple room, the two kids shared a fold down sofa bed, which was quite ok. All beds were a little too firm for our liking, but we got used to them. The hotel is great value for... More

I booked this hotel based on other TA reviews and so glad I did. We ended up staying there for 5 nights using 2 rooms (one for us and one for 2 teenagers) and it was perfect. The price was very fair, the staff was way friendly and helpful, location excellent, and a much nicer lobby than i expected for... More

I stayed here for 6 nights in one of their 'deluxe' single rooms. It is not a fancy hotel, but it is extremely clean and comfortable - and I had a room on the busy main road and noise was not a problem at all, thanks to the sound-proof windows. There was pretty much everything I needed - a fridge,... More
