I was quite happy with my two-night stay here. The room was obviously recently renovated and featured new furniture and some complementary regional snacks and tea. The location is superb if you are looking to be in the shijo area and traveling by train. I arrived by shinkansen and it was a straight shot on the subway to where the... More

+Location (walking distance from Geisha district) In front of Shijo Nishinotoin bus stop (from Kyoto sta. B2 bus 50) -The room is ok but keep in mind that you will have an "all in one" small old moldy plastic bathroom which needs maintenance and deep clean. Because of this, this hotel should not be 3 stars, in deed is better... More

Buses to all attractions are within steps of the hotel. They will provide you a bus list so no need to do research before the trip. Room cleaned everyday. New tooth brush, razor and towel supplied everyday. Room is of good size in this price range.

We were in Kyoto on a holiday weekend and struggled to find accommodation. Court Shijo was an average hotel- for The price I would have expected better. Positives- the location was good with plenty of shops nearby. The room was large and there was a reasonable choice if food for breakfast. The staff were helpful. Negatives- the room needed updating... More

This hotel is close to three subway stations and in walking distance from the Gion main street. And room interior was good enough for the room rate. Also the hotel breakfast was delicious although there were various food items. Hotel staffs were so kind and helpful. I can recommend this hotel.

Court Hotel Shijo made our four days in Kyoto just comfortable and relaxed. We asked for a room with a window and got a corner room with two large windows on two sides of the room. We overlooked trees of the neighbourhood, a quiet and calm scenery. Just what Kyoto is loved for. The rooms has all Japanese amenities, the... More

Locating this hotel took a bit of challenge since it is situated at the side of the main Shijo road. You will first be greeted by the Family Mart which is just opposite the hotel before you can actually find the inconspicuous hotel entrance. The hotel which is 10 min away from Karasuma & Shijo subway stations is a bit... More

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighborhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
