Very basic accommodations and are on the pricey side for what you get. Our room rate was $241 and $305 a night. Staff are eager to please but have limited english skills. Room keys are old fashion, big metal keys and doors. Opening up our room door felt like opening a bank vault. Inside the room, lots of one steps,... More

The hotel is located just at the edge of Gion area, next to Yasaka Shrine. It is very accesible from the train station, several lines conect directly with the hotel in 20 minutes. A very good ubication to explore the city by bus. There are a lot of night life and shopping in the neighbourhood. At sunset, you can spot... More

I love the location! A great base for exploring Kyoto by bus. The bus stop just a walk away from the Hotel. Well, traveling by bus is much easier anyway in Kyoto. Though if you have luggages to drag around, clearly bus is not the option. I had mine delivered to and from the hotel to cut the hassle. Many... More

The property is easily accessible from Kyoto station, a taxi ride will cost around ¥1,300 (take the established taxi companies, avoid the independent ones) and Raku Bus No 100, which stops practically in front of the hotel, is even cheaper at ¥230 but I would not recommend this option if you have heavy luggage as the bus can get quite... The location is perfect. It is near to major attractions and the bus nearby can take you to the rest. Staff was friendly, but their English is poor, so it was difficult to get directions and/or instructions. I would still say that the staff were very accommodating. I asked for an iron and they brought it to my room within... More

We really enjoyed our 2 night stay here in Kyoto. It was a nice hotel & a very spacious room- we particularly loved having a Japanese bathroom in our en-suite. The location is good for the temples & the Gion district. We did have a bit of an ordeal finding it- our guidebook suggested not using the bus in Kyoto... More

We spent two nights in Kyoto at the Hotel Sunline in late October 2014. First, the good stuff. The staff is extremely polite and helpful. Ask for the bus route map when you check in - it will give you all the access to Kyoto you need with the bus stop right across the street. Hotel Sunline is in a... More

Sunline Kyoto Gion Hotel is a very good choice to stay in Kyoto, but here's my review: ROOM: We have booked a room for four. The room is was quite spacious for Japanese standards. The bathroom is huge, toilet area and bath ares (bathtub for Jacuzzi and shower). CLEANLINESS: Super clean (room and bathroom spotless). Nothing to say about the... More

Got a free upgrade of room. Very clean and comfortable. Huge bathroom, lots of toiletries. Amazing spread on breakfast buffet - best so far in Japan! Great location.....very close to Gion Corner and shops. Nice walk to Kiyomizu Dera temple through shops and local neighbourhoods.

I had a second-floor smoking room above a garage. This meant that I was woken up around 7AM by the noise of staff arriving, on both mornings. The smoking room (I'm a non-smoker) smelled. Other than that, the location.
