This was our first visit to Kyoto. We booked Kyoto Tower Annex due to the pricing of the property. However, did not realise that the room would be very small. The location of the property is great. It's 3 min walking distance from the Kyoto railway station. It's very convenient for tourist as taking city bus for sight seeing has... More

The room seemed to be stuck in a time warp from the 1970's. The bathroom was essentially a tiny plastic box, barely big enough to move around in. The staff barely spoke English and the western style breakfast was inedible. However it is very close to the train station and a 2 min walk from Kyoto's biggest shopping centre. It... More

Our room was on the sixth floor, easily reached by elevator. It had a prefab bathroom to modernize it, with a step into and out of the bathroom. It was a nighttime challenge to remember the step (I am over 60) but everything worked and it was a clean and comfortable room. It was small by U.S. standards but with... More

Hotel is conveniently located near the JR. Great for me as I was only in Kyoto to sleep. The room was small though even for one person. Not sure why I got 2 beds instead of one bigger bed as I specified I was a solo traveller. There was a sofa bed in the room which was unnecessary and made... More

Also located beside Kyoto Tower (but you can't see it from your room), and also near to Yodobashi Camera, for your Japanese multimedia/appliance shopping. However, the rooms are very small. We visited during cherry blossom season, the room rates are very high. The location close to Kyoto station is really convenient. We did expect the rooms to be small, struggled to find place to even open our luggage. And the rooms are quite dated.

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighborhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
