We found his hotel to have a really excellent location, we could walk almost everywhere we wanted to go and it is extremely well connected to the station by both bus and train (nb, train not metro..if you take metro to the similarly named station, as we did, you have to walk about 15 mins :-)) Room was big enough,... Excellent location, small rooms but very clean and comfortable. Breakfast buffet was very good - we love the Japanese food choices. Staff very helpful with directions to sites we wanted to visit and also with luggage forwarding. I would not hesitate to stay here should I visit this region again.

As expected from other reviews rooms were very small but comfortable. The location more than made up for the room size. Being within walking distance ot the Gion and the main shopping avenue was great.

We stayed here 5 five nights. Beds were comfortable, and American Breakfast was the usual. This was the smallest bathroom, though the shower was OK. The neighborhood was very good, convenient to all local sights, shopping and restaurants (especially Italian Rest. Mon Ami).

the only downside was the small bathroom (watch your head and feet on entering)! This hotel appeared popular with both Japanese and foreign visitors. Comfy beds. Very large choice at breakfast buffet--both Japanese and Western. Staff extremely helpful. Kudos go especially to front desk staff for help using the lobby computer to print boarding passes for Japan airlines flight home.... More

Stayed here 5 nights on a tour. Rooms are small but have everything you need. Bathroom is small and shower ceiling is low, which might be a problem for anyone 6 feet or taller. Breakfast is on the tenth floor, and the views are very nice. Both western and Japanese items for breakfast, but the Japanese put sugar in the... More

This hotel is excellently placed for sightseeing in Kyoto with many temples and sights a short walk (10-15mins) We stayed on the top floor and looked out over the river and in the distance saw some beautiful temples which were lit up at night The breakfast itself was standard japanese buffet with most people being able to find something from... Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighborhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
