We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Watazen Ryokan in Kyoto. The location was amazing. It was quiet and extremely accessible to the Higashima area as well as numerous great restaurant options. When we come back to Kyoto we would definitely consider staying here or in the near area. The service was great, the staff was friendly and helpful. We... More

We spent our first night in Kyoto at Watazen and what an introduction. We we greater well from the moment we entered this lovely Ryokan. Our room was lovely and choosing a room where we had to use the shared Onsen made it feel even more amazing. The Traditional Kasieki dinner was AMAZING, every moment was special and you could... Watazen was a great ryokan and definitely a memorable part of my visit to Kyoto. The location was convenient and accessible, as well as close to nearby markets. The room was spacious and comfortable. The staff were friendly and helpful at every step, and spoke English well. The traditional kaiseki dinner served at Watazen was excellent. Overall, Watazen was a... More

A very nice ryokan where we can enjoy Japanese hospitality and relax in onsen. Great Japanese breakfast is served at the dinning room for 1000 Yen. The room was spacious enough for 4 persons even with futon set-up. All facilities can be found around.

Me and my family stayed at Watazen Ryokan for 2 nights in summer. We booked Japanese Style Room for 5people. Hotel location isn't really hard to find by using Google Maps. The building was looked old from the outside but the inside was really comfortable. Upon our arrival, the staff gave us a warm welcome by giving a prize drawing.... More

Kyoto Watazen Ryokan exceeded my expectations. Great location in a quiet neighborhood, within walking distance of the Nishiki food market, main shopping street Shijo-dori, metro stations and a number of restaurants. To get there from Kyoto Station with the greatest ease, make sure you have a printout (in Japanese) with the hotel address to show the taxi drivers. Once you've... More

I stayed at Watazen Ryokan this month, and I was extremely surprised by the quality of their service. The staff came to my room and made me green tea when I checked in, and they offered green tea to people in the lobby. The USD$10 Japanese breakfast was probably the best I had in my Japan trip, again with impeccable... More

Thank you for your staying at Watazen. And, thanks for your comment. Watazen locates city center. It is very convenient to go to every where to sight seeing. We are so sorry but, we have only small garden outside of dinning hall. We hope we can see you again soon. More

We stayed here for a couple of nights in order to experience a traditional ryokan. The hotel was fairly easy to find (it's just down the street from the YMCA) and in a great location in a really picturesque part of town within walking distance of a a subway station, a great market and Nijo castle. There are also some... More

Upon arrival we entered a prize draw game and won some free bits which was a lovely welcome touch! Shown to our room, loads of advice from the staff on things to do, places to eat, and friendly service. We chose a traditional room and it was our first stay in a Ryokan and it was exactly what we were... More
