This was my first stay at a Ryokan and it was exactly what I was hoping for and expecting. The location was in a quiet part of town that you could walk around in and enjoy the culture. The service from the front desk and the servers for the meals was top notch. If you reserve here, add the dinner... More

Location It's about a 15 mins taxi ride from Kyoto station, well "hidden" in some small streets. Within walking distance from Nishiki market. It's a 4 storey building with traditional japanese rooms. Rooms We took the 8+4 Tatami Mats guest room with private bath. It's big and spacious with a small balcony with a small desk and 2 chairs, perfect... More

This stay made my trip. Excellent service, real Japanese roykan experience. Location is excellent, right in the middle of an area with many local shops and close to the Nishi Market. The traditional Japanese dinner in room is very well presented and explained. And the Madam visited us during dinner to make sure everything is ok. Highly recommended!

We stayed in Kyoto for a few days and decided to spend our last night there in a ryokan. We chose Watazen because it was easy walking distance from the hotel we had been staying and because it had received good reviews. The room is large and sparse as you would expect and the futons very comfortable for sleeping. We... More

A wonderful location with kind and helpful staff. We walked to many places. The walls are a bit thin so you do hear other guests. Additionally, the smell of traditional Japanese breakfast permeates the entire place each morning. Basically grilled fish smell. They have a laundry room so it's great to take advantage of that if you're light packers as... More

This hotel is a gem. I stayed for three nights with my son and we could not have asked for anything better. The rooms are large, the futons are comfortable, the spa bath downstairs is clean, the breakfast was fantastic and the staff were extremely cordial. Many nice little touches. You are within walking distance of Gion, Southern Higashiyama and... More

This place is right next to Nisiki Market and the Shopping Arcade, less than half a block away, and is only around 4 blocks from Sanjo and Karasuma Stations. I recommend getting their breakfast deal. Not only was is super cheap, but it was sooooo good! Very traditional tastings and different every other day!

We had a very warm reception and the Kaiseki dinner was AMAZING! I had a lot of questions about Japanese food and our guest kindly answered all of them. It was a great experience. I really recomend Watazen Ryokan.

Watazen is a nice Ryokan in a great location in Kyoto. The staff are friendly, the rooms spacious and their dinner and breakfasts are very traditional. I'd say the highlight was the meals - they were delicious and something definitely outside what I would normally choose (dried fish and rice for breakfast - sounds weird but was great). The dinner... Thank you for your staying at WATAZEN. We are very glad that you enjoyed Japanese traditional meals. We are so sorry that the Japanese room is not fit your very young child.
