I was apprehensive about booking a hotel room in Japan through Travelocity instead of directly through the hotel. But, everything went as expected and the room was fantastic! Japanese inns generally have thin walls, so that part was expected. The room was amazing though and I was surprised to find a refrigerator as well. The bathrooms are so modern! Mr.... More

We stayed for 2 nights & absolutely loved this place -- perfect for those wanting to experience a ryokan without sacrificing modern comforts like a private bathroom and free wifi. The room was huge with a table & chairs plus a low table with free water, tea and snacks provided daily. The robes they provide are freshly pressed and perfect... More

We stayed here 1 night but wished we stayed for longer. The hotel is very clean and is a sleek modern take on a traditional ryokan. Staff are very helpful, Onsen is nice. Rooms are beautiful with many amenities provided including a kimono type thing to be worn as a dressing gown

The staff was very professional. The beds were clean and comfortable. The bathroom was also clean and well kept - except there was no toilet brush for us to use. Toothbrushes, hair combs and a hairdryer were provided. There is a laundry room in the basement. There was constant noise throughout the hotel in the evenings, as if somebody is... More

The service was great, front desk very helpful. The location is awesome, right next to Nishiki market. While the public areas are all very nice, the room itself was unimpressive in my opinion. We paid a steep rate expecting the highest quality room and Kaiseki dinner served to us. However, for the price we paid, I was incredibly underwhelmed by... More

Our family of five enjoyed our stay. We all fit in one room. Futons were comfortable. While not the most traditional ryokan this suited us better as with kids and grandma we really appreciated having our own bathroom. The room was big enough for all five of us and our luggage. The onsen was pleasant and very clean. We enjoyed... More

Given it is in a multi-storey building with lifts, standard ceilings and limited windows, it does a reasonable interpretation of what a Ryokan could be. The features that helped it get a good rating from us were the attentive staff, the full traditional food package (dinner and breakfast) and the location.

It's not worth the price paying for. The dinner and breakfast are the worst cuisine we had in Japan. It's either tasteless or by too salty. The shabu shabu was the worst among all. The broth is used with plain water. I wonder is that the authentic cuisine in Japan. So far, the only place using plain water for shabu... More

Stayed for a night just for a ryokan experience. A little pricey for a standard ryokan and with just egg, juice and bread for breakfast. But that didnt bother me since i am paying for an experience. The ryokan is clean, they have an accomodating staff, good location and the place is a short walking distance to the famous nishiki... More

This is a clean and well cared for hotel. It is very close to the Nishiki market. We enjoyed the big hot communal bath (male and female). The staff were very helpful and the local streets were great to walk around.

Staying in Shinkyogoku Shopping District

Neighborhood Profile
Shinkyogoku Shopping District
Those who delight in shopping and cuisine will find themselves at home in Shinkyogoku. Lauded and visited by locals for its Nishiki Market, where baskets of fragrant spices, dried fish, and just-fried foods are piled high along the snaking streets of its enclosed outdoor shopping spaces, Shinkyogoku is not only a hub for fresh fare, but also for fast fashion fixes. Trends-in-the-making can be spotted in the tall windows of several one-of-a-kind stores featuring local labels and modish boutiques. Arcades, outdoor concert spaces, mega department stores, and small, enchanting cafes have sprung up to accommodate the increasing traffic. Whether looking for souvenirs and kitsch on Shinkyogoku Street, or scoping out the massive food court and restaurant floor at Takashimaya Department store, there's something for every wallet or purse, and a buyer for every item.
