I booked motonago based on trip advisor reviews. We could not have been happier with our choice. The location is perfect. Right in the old style part of kyoto, minutes walk to Gion, maranuma park ( most amazing luminated cherry blossom tree ) and several temples. Dinner/ breakfast were included daily in our room agreement - which seemed to be... More

Great service! Would definitely recommend this ryokan as it is quite centrally located. You can walk to Gion from there. The baths are slightly small compared to the other ryokans I have stayed at. Relatively easy to communicate with the staff. Good is good. We had the Western breakfast and did a dinner there one night. Both were great.

If you want to stay in a traditional Ryoken in Kyoto you must stay here. It is very centrally located to the Main Street and the staff are amazing. You will be blown away with the experience as long as you are an open minded traveller. If you are adamant to having all the luxuries in life and are not... More

Great traditional ryokan experience in the higashiyama district of Kyoto. The customer service via email and in person was excellent. The in-room meals and tea are a real treat. Visitors get to experience what it is like to have traditional meals in a tatami room. Just great! My wife had never been to Japan and this stay was one of... More

This is a lovely ryokan, complete with all the traditions and service you would expect of such a place. The service was fantastic, with the staff doing everything they could do to make us comfortable. We ate in the room both nights...the food was excellent (especially the kaiseki). The Western breakfast was one of the better ones I have had... More

Staying at this ryokan means emerging into the historic Japanese way of life. The rooms are in the traditional style and tea and meals are served inside the room. This was the highlight of our Japan trip.

Very nice Ryokan, in a fantastic part of town, near a lot of temple sights, etc. Very friendly and helpful staff. Futons a little uncomfortable compared to others that we slept on, but not too bad. Would recommend.

Motonago is a very charming, well located and with a friendly staff ryokan. I loved the tatame room, the way the futons are displayed as well the meals, always served in the room. Walking around the ryokan is simply amazing, as it is in the middle of the most traditional neibourhood of Kyoto. And I suggest a reservation for the... More

Really enjoyed our one night stay at Ryokan Motonago. We felt that we were able to experience abit of the traditional ryokan experience staying here. The set dinner and breakfast were great too; although if you had to pick between two, the dinner is more worth it. Our room was lovely with our own private toilet and garden. Location was... More
