Stayed three nights with a junior member of the family. The family room type B was perfect for us. Two rooms separated by a door, yet still in the same room. And the rate was very reasonable. Hotel directly connected to Kyoto subway , and Gion and many temples and castles within walking distance. Couldn't be better. Only minor issue:... More

Minus points were a lack of english instructions in the room for the water boiler and TV control. Breakfast... More

Make sure you get a map of where to find the 'Welcome' lounge if arriving at Kyoto Station - we came on the Nozumi Shinkansen from Tokyo and could not find it - we were given directions to the bus pick up, but since this was an unmarked carbide location, cold have worked out badly. Secondly, we specified 2 adjoining... More

Well located hotel, close to the river with cherry blossoms in abundance. Very convenient for shopping. The hotel needs to attend to the breakfast needs of the guests as each morning there was a queue of people waiting to get into the breakfast room, not good enough for a hotel of this size and quality.

Yep, everyone here is spot on that this hotel is great for it's location. It is considered a 5 star hotel and even though the hotel is very nice (more below) it didn't have that "wow" factor that I've had in other 5 stars like the Ritz Carlton but based on location it is a great place to stay….so 4... We recently stayed at this hotel in Kyoto and loved the service and location. Staff was extremely helpful in every way---from giving directions to getting taxis. I also loved that it was close to the shops---the Teramachi shopping arcade and food market. The room was modern and attractive, linens were very nice, amenities good and blow-dryer was a good one---unlike... More

Very well located downtown hotel, close to the shops, bars and easy to get to the bamboo forest and local attractions. Bedrooms modern, clean and comfortable, there was some noise at the front of the hotel on nights so room at back if you want a bit more quiet but not too much of a bother. Right on the river... More

I spent the weekend here with my husband. I had been booked here on the recommendation of my Japan specialist travel agent. The hotel was rebuilt in the early 1990's but was originally the Hotel Kyoto and they are celebrating their 165 the anniversary. It has the feel of a venerable hotel and the clientele seems to be predominately Japanese... More

Great location close to Teramachi shopping arcade, Pontocho, Gion, river, great restaurants and subway station. Beautiful views, but try to get look to the East - river and Higashiyama. Great base for visiting anything in Kyoto.
