This is a beautiful, modern hotel in the heart of Kyoto. We had a wonderful five night stay. We arrived by train and took the subway right to the lower level of the hotel. Most convenient. Also on the lower level is a large modern shopping area including a pastry and coffee shop for quick breakfasts. Nearby is a huge... more

This was an excellent choice for a hotel in Kyoto – it’s centrally located and clean, convenient and prefect for non-Japanese speakers since some or most of the staff speak English. You can easily take the bus and tram around Kyoto and we did so with no problems – there’s a stop a block away from the hotel so you... more

The Kyoto Okura is an exceptionally fine hotel. The rooms are clean, comfortable, well appointed. The staff is energetic and helpful. The location is outstanding. For travelers, access to the hotel from the Kyoto train station is either via a cab ride of about 1100 yen, or the trip can be made in a single bus trip or by subway.... more

The Hotel Okura looks very modern for historic Kyoto, but it makes up for it by being all the best that "modern" entails--clean, efficient and comfortable. The rooms are big by Japanese standards, with huge bathrooms, with separate tub and shower stalls. The toilets are, of course, "enhanced", with things that clean and warm you as you sit. I didn't... more

We loved our stay at Kyoto Hotel Okura! The grand lobby is warm and inviting as are the friendly staff who are by your side and ready to assist before you even know you need them. The room was indeed spacious as mentioned many times here on Tripadvisor and nicely clean. The bath was spacious as well and always supplied... more

I stayed for three nights in this lovely hotel. It is wonderfully situated in the centre of Kyoto allowing easy access to all local amenities. Service is excellent - the staff are really friendly and go out of their way to not only make you feel very welcome but also a valued guest. Not many of the staff speak English... more

Stayed here for five days with my adult son. The room was incredibly roomy (after the tiny box in Tokyo for the same price). It was very clean and quiet with nice views. The concierge was very helpful in securing restaurant reservations. The location was great for both the subway and buses. The restaurant seemed very expensive and we never... more

Our visit here was sandwiched between two stays in Tokyo where we resided in the fab Park Hotel, Shiodome. The Okura surpassed the Park however, which barely seemed possible. It is a bona-fide 5 star hotel, and unusually for Japan, the rooms are spacious. Wonderful buffet breakfast (again this can be difficult to locate in Japan) in a top-floor room... more

The outside view of the hotel fails to do this first rate hotel justice. From the splendid lobby to the excellent sized rooms the hotel was great. Located near downtown Kyoto the Imperial Palace was a 20 minute walk. Shops and restaurants were a short walk. Everywhere in the hotel was spotless. We had a standard double room which was... more

50% room charge for check-out at 2pm instead of noon. lucky we asked in advance. very limited room service after 10pm and none after midnight. (try that with the jet leg) and many other small things that will take the fun out of staying there. swimming pool is open only from 7am-10am and children are not allowed. more
