Stayed in the tatami dorms, which look new. The whole place seems nee. Its clean, nice bathrooms, full kitchen, plenty of areas to hang out in. Close to he main train station, cheap bus ride to the nightlife areas. Super chill staff that speak english really well.

I don't wanna stay here again. A receptionist guy always talked with me without smile but for foreigner, he talked with smile:( Additionally when I went there before check in time just to leave my baggage. He looked like he got annoyed When I went to the reception after check in time... More

Room is facing the door and next to the street so a little noise to be expected (as well as from the dining room crowd above). Tatami room size is big, usual by Jap standards for its pricing.. The guesthouse experience may be a tad too biosterous/rowdy... a first for me, while overall experience is not bad but would choose... More

I stayed there because I could not get on an overnight train to tokyo. The hostel is around 15 minutes walk from the Kyoto station. Do print a map out from Google Map because it is not easy to find it. Even though I reached the hostel after 11pm(the designated check-in timing), the owner was very kind and helped me... More

Stayed here for 8 nights with family at the family suite room. It is a Japanese style room, pretty spacious and enough for 4-5 people. Arrived at Kyoto station and took a cab there (5 min drive). The place is not exactly well-known so I suggest to print out a map and showed it to the driver. Check-in was smooth,... More

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighborhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
