This is the third time we have stayed at the venerable Traveler's Inn. We noted that they have spiffed things up a bit in general and also the rooms. The rooms remain tiny and the bathrooms very tiny but they are fresher. The restaurant looks nicer too but we only had breakfast here. Previously the breakfast was very much Japanese... More

Dear Tom H Thank you very much for the great comment again. Just to update you, last year we have renovated 2 Japanese rooms and collaborated with local popular shop SOU SOU. We have 2 comfortable Zaisu cushion chairs in the room. At the Cafe, we have a new menu for 11-20 time frame. We serve Vegan and Muslim friendly... More

This is a very suitable hotel to use as a base to explore Kyoto. Just a few blocks to closest subway (and thus trains), philosopher's walk and temples. Lobby and restaurant have been upgraded. Staff very helpful. Inn will provide a map of local restaurants and sites.

It's situated opposite the canal which is really a great spot! There's a 711 down the road which is great for coffee and breakfast if you don't want to eat at the hotel. Location is fantastic to explore Higashiyama..and its next door to the Hein Jinga Shrine. We stayed in a Japanese style room which was very comfortable. Bathroom was... More

Dear Rasi80 Thank you very much for your review and staying at Kyoto Traveler's Inn. We believe Japanese Tatami room is an unique experience to non-Japanese guests. We assumed that you tried also our Public Bath. Please come back again to explore Kyoto more. Sincerely, Izumi Nakagawa More

Lobby is gorgeous, gives the impression of a nice hotel but once you go further you realize how its not. The ceilings are stained and there is no elevator leaving guests with large bags to walk several stairs to get to their rooms. When we entered our room was very small, and STUNK, smelled like an old bookstore (mildew like).... More

Dear Ms. Monroe C Thank you very much for staying with us. We regret the room did not meet your satisfaction and we will work on it near future. We do have 2 Western and 2 Japanese upgraded rooms. Stayed 2 nights in the Inn as we wanted to try a typical Japanese Inn. It is located not far from the Gion district of Kyoto. The rooms are small and laid out with tatami mats. There are no beds and you have to lay a thin mattress on the floor to sleep. The bathroom is clean with a shower.... More

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Agil N Thank you very much for staying with us. Sleeping on a Futon mattress on the Tatami Floor is one of the unique experience to the people who never experienced it. However, this is our culture. We are sorry to hear that it was not comfortable for you. We hope to gather as much opinions... More

Location was okay, and the price was good. The futons were some of the thinnest I've ever seen. Room was tired. The whole place could use a good clean. Thoroughly average. Take your own pillow. I'd probably choose a business hotel over this place next time.

This backpacker's inn rivaled some of the pricier franchised hotels. Each room came with two beds, the breakfast was affordable with a "Western" option, there was a public bath in the basement, and bikes were available for day rentals. But what made this inn standout was its central location to historic Kyoto. Everything apart from the golden temple and imperial... More

Once again I had the pleasure of staying at this well-located, budget-priced, very friendly and comfortable inn on a recent visit to Japan. I took advantage of KTI's location and walked from the nearby subway station, saving my taxi money for more sushi. My questions were answered by the knowledgeable front desk staff. I used the coin laundry (a real... More

Great location. Walking distance to Muryama Park and several popular shrines. However the hotel is pretty dated. The rooms and hallways are a bit weathered, although they are clean. We enjoyed trying the Japanese style guest house, but it was a tough night's sleep. But that was our choice. Staff was average. When I tried to inform one of the... More
