We spent 2 nights here whilst in Kyoto. The rooms were very clean and spacious with comfortable beds. It contained everything we needed from hairdryer to fridge. We had a beautiful view of Nino Castle from the hotel. It was quiet, the staff were very helpful and it was quite conveniently placed for the areas we wanted to see. Our... More

Conveniently located near to Nijojomae station, only 3 stops away from Sanjo Keihan, the downtown of Kyoto. By taxi, it will cost you around 1500 Yen to get there from Kyoto Station. The hotel itself isn't new, but it is well upkept. Managed to get superlow rate for booking made 9 months in advance for one-week stay. And yes, there's... More

An elegant older hotel with impeccable service! We stayed in a huge tatami room with a beautiful garden view (at a fabulous discount price thanks to JapanICan!). Room and bathroom were sparkling clean. Literally just across the street from Nijo Castle; bus stops close by. I'd stay there again in a heartbeat. The one thing missing that could make this... More

The hotel will not impress you at the first instance, it does not have wi-fi in your rooms. The same needs to be accessed from the lobby. The location is ok but nothing so great to work around. It is appropriate if you are staying for a single night

I was hesitant to book in this hotel, due to the not so good reviews online. But I went on with it anyway, because I wanted to stay in hotel (with en suite bath and toilet) but with a Japanese style room. Got a good sale price on their website ~ Although upon checkout, they billed me with an outrageously... More

Reasonably priced and comfortably equipped, our stay in Japan was made even better while staying at this hotel. Staff were pleasant and efficient, and many knew English which helped us tremendously when our Japanese-speaking family members weren't around! The included breakfast was incredible! In hotel shopping was also plentiful and reasonable.

For the price this hotel is what was expected. Its a bit dated and could do with a touch up here and there but the rooms were quite big as far as Japanese hotel room goes. The corridors stink of smoke but we had a non smoking room which was fine. The hotel is right opposite Nijo Castle and a... More

Had a great 10 day stay at this hotel in Golden Week in May, when it was really difficult to find a room any where in Kyoto. The Western Twin room was spacious, comfortable, light and airy and very well equipped. The service was very good and helpful despite many of the staff having minimal English. This led to some... That's average, not bad though, The hotel has no highlights but it's extremely adequate as a well located base to stay in Kyoto. Very central and near the castle. Seem to be a lot of smoking rooms and we got one as non-smokers which wasn't ideal, especially as they couldn't move us. However, the stay was fine and we found... More

Kokusai is an older, sprawling hotel, in need of re-furbishing. It doesn't have much charm or character, but we glad to get a hotel rom in Kyoto at the peak of cherry blossom time. Best part is hotel's location right across street from Nijo Castle. Breakfast quite good, pleasant to sit beside garden window. Annoying to only got sporadic wifi... More
