The location of the hotel is perfect, but has no character, no soul,it looks like a very old hotel In a different epoch. There is no lobby, no service , you take up your luggage to your room, no room service.I wonder if these are the Japanese standard for a classified four star hotel. You can enjoy free wifi in... Right in front of Nijo Castle, close to buses and metro, the hotel is in a great position. The staff is very helpful and polite. The hotel itself, however, is a bit dated, and it definitely needs a complete refurbishing.

We had a family trip to Kyoto and stayed in this hotel for 4 nights. We reserved two Japanese-style rooms and they were pretty comfortable to us. The location of the hotel is really nice, given the bus stop is in front of the hotel and subway is only in 5 min walk distance, and a couple convenient stores are... More

We were here for three days. The room was comfortable and up to date . Yes it had sliding panels in front of the window but this is Japan and it felt right. The bathroom was just fine. We had the breakfast buffet every morning which had a great variety of food. The location was great being right across the... More

My itinerary included a stay at the 9 hours capsule hotel, which, being a little claustrophobc, did not appeal so I was booked in here instead, and it was fine. Easily found from the subway station and close to the park, this is a large hotel but I felt welcomed and the room itself was larger than the one I... More

It is a bit dated could use some updating. It was clean but very small room the bathroom reminded me of a cruise ship bathroom very small. I think it is one step up from a real Japanese hotel the bed was only 2 feet off the floor there was no curtains on the window just sliding panels. But as... More

We had one night in Kyoto and stayed in a "japanese style" room, which was really cool. The hotel staff came and roled out our tatamis on the floor so that the beds were made for the night. It was a bit hard to sleep only on one tatami, but there was four tatamis in total in the room so... More

I don't really understand why people here keep repeating that kyoto kokusai hotel is out dated. Nothing in out standard room was out dated. It was really spacious, enormous in Japanese terms, tremendously equipped, nicely decorated, very comfortable. Lights and radio - with wonderful music channels - controlled from the bed head. The bathing area is a treat. Bath and... More

Several bus lines run past here, including lines to other tourist sites. One block up in either direction there are numerous other bus lines, so great transportation access (and you can get a daily pass for ~$5.00)! Lobby area was very nice & restaurants too . . . and the garden was absolutely beautiful; however, the room was a little... More

You can picture that this hotel once was very elegant, and then what it's become: a quirky place, with oddly outmoded carpeting, beat up wooden door frames, no place to sit in the lobby yet sofas in the elevators. It's just weird and kinda cool. Many of the rooms have magnificent views of Nijo-jo, just across the street. Mine didn't,... More
