i had a western-style room overlooking the city. It wasn't extraordinary but it was comfortably furnished and spacious. As always in Japan it was very clean and the bathroom was more than adequate. There was a choice of reasonably-priced restaurants overlooking a garden. With Kyoto's excellent public transportation system, nothing was very far away. If you go to Kyoto, try... more

I stayed here after spending 4 nights at the Best Western Astina Shinjuku, so it was a very hard act to follow. That said it was a clean and comfortable hotel in an excellent location. I stayed in a Japanese style room city view. The room was clean and the futons were made every night around 6:00pm in a very... more

My wife and I stayed in one of the Japanese-style rooms with tatami mats and futons. I absolutely loved it. The futon and pillow I had were the most comfortable I've ever slept on. Ever. Maybe I'm just cut out for that kind of arrangement, but I like sleeping low to the ground where I can spread out. The staff... more

Location is good, however a bit too far to walk from the station. Rooms on the riverside are nice. Breakfast is OK but not of a particular interest. more

We had a Western room which was very spacious, staff were friendly and helpful. You don't really need something terribly fancy as you'll find you spend most of the time out sight-seeing (which is all walking distance away), there's loads of restaurants around. I think we found it quite expensive for meals inside the hotel and used to go to... more

We stayed at this hotel for one night because all nights at the Westin Miyako were not available. It turned out, however, to be an interesting hotel, and we would stay there again. We chose Japanese style rooms, which I guess were fairly authentic, with the futons on tatami mats. The location was excellent and we could walk to many... more

It looks forboding from the outside, perhaps even stuffy, but, there are lovely restaurants and great gardens and friendly people inside. Best of all is the view of the river with the sea eagles soaring over head. More birds and the view of the stone pedestrian bridge and surrounding hills make the spot sublime. Not a quaint folksy hotel by... more
