Although the exterior is not attractive, it is still a nice western hotel with Japanese style in the furnishings. The window instead of curtain has sliding paper screen to block out the light. The room was of adequate size with space for a table and couple of arm chairs. Bathroom was small but functional. The buffet breakfast was not bad... More

Stayed here for 3 nights and the hotel is nice and the rooms are big for Japan. Close (5 min walk) to Kyoto Station and restaurants and bars in that area. One little gripe I had was I tried to get a coffee in the morning at the "Cafe" beside the lobby and was refused unless I sat in the... More

We arrived via the bullet train and the building is not very appealing. Unfortunately the rooms reflect the look of the exterior. Wr were staying on the 4th floor, the rooms and bathrooms are very tired looking. The furniture worn and damaged. The air conditioning only has high, med, or low, no temperature gauge. Wr overlooked the roof, no view,... More

About 5 minutes walk from Kyoto station with a shuttle bus from the Shinkansen exit every 15 minutes the location is perfect. Large rooms, nice and affordable buffet breakfast, fee wifi, charming and helpful staff its all a bit dated but its a great value property. When I come back top Kyoto I will certainly look at this hotel first

Huge room by Japan standards. The 4 of us had 4 SEPARATE beds (3 beds + 1 sofa pullout) which was a huge plus. Beds were comfortable and even though we were on the side of the train tracks, it was very quiet due to two sets of paned glass. Hotel was about two large blocks from AEON shopping mall... More

I got an excellent rate by booking in advance and could enjoy a stay in a dated, but still rather fine hotel. The room was incredibly large for Japanese standards and this fact increased the sense of comfort. It's one km far from the station but it offers a free shuttle service. Breakfast was fully satisfactory. Pay attention: one face... More

Arrived with 3 other friends. Was expecting better services. Had requested a non smoking room. Was given one where it was heavily smoked. They try to hide it with air fresheners. Told them and asked for another room. They changed the room reluctantly and the female staff who accompany us wanted to check the room first as if we had... More

I have travelled to Japan hundreds of times in the past 30 years..... Kyoto is my favourite destination. I used to stay in the Granvia..... a really super hotel, no doubt, but expensive... and liable to noise from the railway station (from 6:00 a.m.) We found the Rihga Royal a few years ago..... a really nice hotel. 10 minutes walk... The hotel is in a very convenient location close to the train station and city center. The shuttle was quick and reliable, commuting between the hotel and train station every 15 minutes. Rooms were decent! Request a non-smoking room, and be sure that your room is away from smoking rooms. Mine was non-smoking but had a smokey smell to it.... More

It was nice location, the breakfast was ok, is a big hotel you can get lost easily, they have a free shuttle bus to the station but is not necessary you can go walking. The rooms are Japanese western and beds are comfortable.
