Pros: Within 10 minutes from Kyoto train station. Free shuttle bus to Kyoto station. Good size clean rooms. Staff very polite and helpful. The revolving restaurant at the top of this hotel is worth a visit. Good value for money. Cons: Very dated/in need of modernisation. Staff speak very little english so brush up on your Japanese. Only one TV... More

Came here with a big group of exchange students, on a field trip to Kyoto. I was only at the hotel to sleep, as I have spent the rest of the day exploring the city. To me, the room was average, but pleasant. I got to get a good night sleep. It is very close to the station, so I... More

I spent three nights in the Rihga Royal Hotel Kyoto last week and I really felt like I was in a time warp! This is a strange hotel. It's very large but without any style or grace. The staff were very nice, polite and helpful but there was not much to be done about my room. I'd requested a non... More

Stayed here for 3 nights during cherry blossom season (My mother wanted to book the Granvia but it was already fully booked in February. Lesson is book early if you are anticipating a visit to Kyoto in April!) As expected, we experienced a Kyoto inundated with foreign tourists. Rhiga too seemed to have several tourist groups from China, Southeast Asia... More

Location wise, it is a 10-minute walking distance from the Kyoto Train Station which has a lot of shopping and dining places. It is also near Aeon Mall and some ramen houses. At first entrance, you will feel that it is an old and old-fashioned hotel, something you have visited during the 90s. The room we had had an old... More

The location is quite good, close to the station, an easy walk even with bags. They do have a shuttle but finding it at the station is tricky. Good for the return trip. The rooms are by Japan standards big and well equipped. The room passed the wifes test of having a good hair drier and a well situated mirror... More

We stayed here during the first week in April to catch the cherry blossom season in Kyoto and to visit various well known tour sites in the area. My first thought as reflected in the title is that the hotel is due for a major renovation as its age is showing. However, the hotel has posters stating that major renovation... More

We have just returned from a group tour of Japan and stayed at this hotel for two nights. We had a standard room. The room was very small and dark and really needs complete refurbishment. Likewise the bathroom, which was very small with cracks in the bath. The air conditioning was completely ineffectual. Considering this hotel is advertised as five-star,... More

The hotel was actually better than I expected based on the previous reviews. It is possible our 9th floor room had been renovated. Yes, the breakfast is very busy due to large group business, but they handle it with an added banquet room, and it was fine. Staff was pleasant and hotel was clean. We paid a very high price... Smallest size room of all the hotels we've stayed in on our japanese trip. The rooms are outdated and needs renovation wich is upcoming as stated on their website. Hard to keep the rooms all clean when they are in this shape. The staff is very welcoming as the tend to be in Japan. Not very close to other sightseeing... More
