I was here on a business trip. The hotel is just a normal hotel in Japan, nothing special. Friendly staff but had some problems with the non-smoking room that smelled smoke (was quickly changed to Another room). I would not recommend their breakfast, for mee it was much better and cheaper to eat at one of the nearby coffee shops.... More

Let me start with the good. -The location. It is only 7-8 minutes away from Kyoto Station. -They have shuttle service to and from the station, which is handy when you bring many luggages. The shuttle stop right in the Shinkansen entrance door. That is another plus. -The breakfast selection is good, though as a frugal person, I find it... More

Decent hotel with 80's style furnishing... not so beauty. Clean rooms. Free in-room wifi. Gentle staff. Quite good restaurant for launch and dinner. So-so breakfast. The hotel is placed outside city center but it's near JR station and customers can rely on hotel's shuttle bus from / to it (7.00 AM - 9.00 PM). Plus: panorama view on 11th floor.... More

Well, the staff were nice and the hotel in not far from the Bus Station and Train station by walk, and they offer a shuttle to the train station (south exit) that passes all the 15min. However the small room aren't comfortable at all, I recommand if you want to stay there to ask for rooms at the 11th floor... More

I arrived and was already forewarned that the place was outdated, so my expectations were not very high. The first room I had on the 5th floor was ok. Twin beds, usual amenities, bathroom clean but a little beat up. No problem it was only for a night as I was going to a ryokan. I came back a day... More

A short walk (shuttle busses available) from the main station, and very centrally located. Very nice rooms, and excellent service. Breakfast can be a bit crowded and not a huge selection, particularly if you use the ballroom option they have when the restaurant is completely fully. Multiple restaurants available within the hotel and several just outside as well. Clean and... More

We arrived mid morning but they still let us check-in which I think is a real positive. Rooms are small but ok and have a nice bathroom with a great shower. They have Japanese style screens over the windows which made it feel very authentic. There is a mini bar in the room, drip-coffee that you have to pay for,... More

Best thing about this hotel is the breakfast buffet that has a mix of American and Japanese food. The freshly made croissants are the best I've ever tasted. They ring a bell during breakfast every time the croissants come out and it disappears literally within a couple of minutes. The hotel is scheduled to be closed next year for a... More

My wife, son and I stayed here for 4 nights in the beginning of June 2015. We found it to be comfortable and had no substantive complaints that would discourage us from staying here again. Plus, this was one of the few places where we were able to find a room with triple beds whereas other hotels would offer a... More

My impression of this hotel is mixed. It's a large hotel with a large lobby and several restaurants, however the rooms seems somewhat old. Our 3 bed room was large, but the bathroom small. I think the rooms have a sad and boring style. Service is ok, but not splended. Breakfast is ok but far too expensive even with 20%... More

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighborhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
