Stayed here for 2 nights on the Ladies Only floor - in the new location, not the old one. Lovely hotel, fantastic location. I walked from Kyoto station one day and it took me about 40 minutes but is a straight road and super easy to find. Staff are helpful and knowledgeable. The ladies lounge on the floor is a... More

Great location 5 minute walk from super restaurants. If you have time and energy you could walk to lots of the city highlights, otherwise the bus system is outside the hotel door. Bed very comfortable and bathroom perfect if small.

The pictures on Tripadvisor are of the old hotel closed for renovation. Google maps also lead you to the old site. The new place is beyond any expectations:very modern, includes bath robes and toiletries and a plasma TV. The staff were extremely polite and helpful and we also got it at a great bargain price. The location is very convenient too.... More

Out of multiple hotels we stayed in while in Japan, this was by far the youngest, trendiest and most modern feeling. The hotel was renovated only months ago and it shows. Rooms are clean and comfortable. The staff speaks better English than in most hotels. The hotel is close to major shopping and within 2 minutes of a subway station.... More

We stayed 3 nights at this central hotel in March 2014. The location was excellent and we were well placed to explore Kyoto. The hotel rooms were basic, and small- which appeared to be the case in many central hotels in Japanese big cities- would not recommend travelling with big suitcases as it is likely they will not fit on... I stayed in this hotel for 5 nights last November for the duration of a conference. The hotel was well priced considering the high peak season that I was travelling. The room was very clean, contained all the basic amenities needed, and even though not very big (normal for a Japanese Room), it was perfect for the duration of my... More

Although the hotel facility itself is basic and a little run down, you cannot beat its location - right in the heart of modern and historical Kyoto. We had lots of luggage and the hotels staff helped us carry them inside, which is rare for business hotels in Japan. Yes, the rooms are small, but very typical in Japan. Our... More

I stayed here as part of an Interpid trip and didn't find it particularly good. Positives are the location, it is very close to major shops and the Pontocho restaurant area. Bus No 5 from the Kawaramachi Sanjo stop, just infront of the hotel is very useful and you can buy one day bus passes from reception at 500Y. The... More

The room is similar to other Japanese business hotel, extremely small but functional and generally clean. However, the room cleaning person did not wash the glasses I have used. She simply put it back to where it was placed originally and pretend it was washed. The price is good as I got the single room for 3 nights at a... More

Hotel Unizo was the first hotel during our 10 day trip in Kyoto. Staying in Shinkyogoku Shopping District

Neighborhood Profile
Shinkyogoku Shopping District
Those who delight in shopping and cuisine will find themselves at home in Shinkyogoku. Lauded and visited by locals for its Nishiki Market, where baskets of fragrant spices, dried fish, and just-fried foods are piled high along the snaking streets of its enclosed outdoor shopping spaces, Shinkyogoku is not only a hub for fresh fare, but also for fast fashion fixes. Trends-in-the-making can be spotted in the tall windows of several one-of-a-kind stores featuring local labels and modish boutiques. Arcades, outdoor concert spaces, mega department stores, and small, enchanting cafes have sprung up to accommodate the increasing traffic. Whether looking for souvenirs and kitsch on Shinkyogoku Street, or scoping out the massive food court and restaurant floor at Takashimaya Department store, there's something for every wallet or purse, and a buyer for every item.
