Family of 5 (1 couple plus 2 grown kids and 1 infant)We love our stay at Hotel New Hankyu! It's right across Kyoto station so it's very convenient to go to places. It is also just 10 minutes away to Gion disctrict and Higashiyama so we just took the cab going to those places. Staff are very friendly and speak english very well. We stayed at the 4th floor non smoking room and the room is pretty big, the beds are big too! The room we stayed at is newly renovated. They cleaned our room everyday and even changed our beddings and towels daily. They also provided bottled water everyday. I wished I had asked what brand of body wash and hand wash they had because they smelled really good.

Couple of key points for me were not met. Ceiling vent in bathroom was lint clogged. Someone’s dirty sock tucked behind the main door. Obvious lack of attention to detail which says a lot about overall procedures. Kinda like the restaurant with dirty restrooms says a lot about what goes on in the kitchen. Not the expectation for Japan.

Terrific hotel next to the amazing Kyoto train station. Ask for room with view train station. The hotel was fine for our travel needs. You can do everything right out of Kyoto train station. We made a good choice- third floor Kyoto Station view.

The biggest room I had during my trip to Japan with a comfortable bed. Great location just in front of the Kyoto station, lots of shopping and eating possibilities around. The Western breakfast buffet was an interesting mix of choices, but all were tasty and as you would expect from Japan all was perfectly organized.

Fantastic location with easy access to city buses (on south side of Kyoto Station), the airport limousine bus to Osaka Itami (on north side), and the trains, of course. The underground dining corridor, Porta Dining, has an entrance right across the street from the hotel entrance, where a number of dining options are available. There’s a Lawson on the corner, too, for drinks/snacks. The twin room was clean and comfortable. The staff wasn’t as comfortable with English speakers, and when I spoke with my beginner level Japanese, I sensed I put them into a bit of a panic, but the staff was always very courteous and professional. (Just perhaps not as easy for English speakers as in Tokyo, so good to have a translator app ready.) Rate seemed reasonable for Kyoto, maybe a bit on the high side for the basic rooms we’d booked, but the city seemed full of tourists. (Especially Japanese high school field trips. It seemed the end of May is the time for high school trips.) There is a city tax that was added on to my booking.com reservation, which I was prepared for, even though similar “city tax” warnings were provided on my Tokyo and Okinawa hotels, they must’ve been included, as I didn’t have to pay anything additional on any of my other hotel stays during this trip. I’d happily stay here again the next time in Kyoto, as I found the transportation links fantastic.

This hotel is old but very well kept. It is clean and the rooms are spacious. Breakfast could be improved but the convenience of the hotel makes up for any negativities. It is in front of Kyoto JR station and next to the Kyoto central bus depot. It is also a five minute walk from Kyoto subway, needless to say, a great location for venturing around different parts of Kyoto.

I have to be very honest this is a very basic and clean hotel that provides the necessary needs to all travelers. However, we do find it a little difficult to convey our request to the receptionist at certain times (ie. when we need to request for 1 night storage of our luggages as we will be travelling to Tooyoka for 1 night stay before coming back and continuing our stay at the hotel the next day). Also, i do find the service provided tends to be a little cold. Anyway, I do believe that they are doing their best to cope with the reopening to oversea tourist and things will get better eventually.

The hotel is located in opposite of the train station, next to the Kyoto tower. To the trains it‘s just a 3 minutes walk therefore. The room was nicely decorated and spacious for japanese conditions. Wifi as well wired high speed ethernet are complimentary. The breakfast buffet exceeded my expectations, you find many local and international food. It‘s my fourth hotel experience in Kyoto and the best so far. I can highly recommend this hotel.

This hotel is an anti- foreginer in my opinion. i am a taiwanese who was born and lived in japan for more than 30years, and i have never been treated like this when i checked in. 3 of my family member and one american friend got two rooms, and when we checked in, we were asked to present japan residency cards and passport. we have never been asked to present those ids ever in japanese hotels. maybe they do that for security reason, but they said they didnt need my brother's since he is a "japanese." they didnt make any copies and they said they didnt need one when i said i didnt have it with me. moreover, as soon as they saw my and mom's name which are in chinese, they said we are from China. we told them, no, it is taiwan, and they didnt ask for anything else. i bet they wanted to ask us for more documents if we said china. in any case, it is very rude to judge ppl where they are from only with names. very unprofessional. lastly, he told us that two of us are registered for one room, and the other two are registered for the other room. he said we can only use the room we registered. i wonder why he told us that. does it mean i cant go to other room? i cannot use restroom in the other room? there was a japanese person who was checking in next to me. he was never told those requests from the hotel and he checked in in 2min while ours lasted for more than 10. i felt we were looked down and felt uncomfortable.the miyako hotel we stayed a day before, also near kyoto station, was super friendly and checkin and checkout were both very efficient and smooth. i have stayed in this hankyu hotel two years ago and i loved it. however, from today's experience, i dont think i would ever stay here again. if you want to stay in a hotel which will treat you same as japanese people and make you feel at home, i would not stay here.

The hotel/room itself was below average. Nothing special, but got the job done I suppose. Furnishings are definitely a bit outdated, and were not the cleanest. I did not expect much from the room, but it somehow still disappointed. What really set me off about this hotel was the atrocious service. Everyone working was either completely incompetent, or just flat out rude. Most of them did not know how to address any concerns and would just dish you off to someone else. After continuing this seemingly never ending cycle to the top, the manager just says "sorry", and walks away. I have never been so dissatisfied with a service to leave a review in my entire life. However, this experience was so awful that I felt compelled to make an account just to leave this review.
