Booked through online agent. Room was poky and bathroom was "port-a-cabin" like (really). Most rooms are smoking and it really stinks of smoke everywhere. Tried to upgrade but price jumped from £200 (which is not worth it) to £600. Crazy! So we did downgraded instead as downgraded room seemed larger. Location was not great either although a 1000 yen ride... More

A bit of a walk from the station, but there's a shuttle bus, so no problem. Helpful front desk, some spoke excellent English. God restaurant. Only hotel we stayed in in Japan without vending machines, that is actually a bit of a drawback. Very international. Seemed popular with Chinese tourist, who behave lets us just say a little unlike the... More

I really don't have anything bad to say about this hotel. It is not the best place I have ever stayed in but it's clean the staff are friendly and efficient. The rooms are comfortable and well equipped. The only negative is that it's not in the best location. You're not far from anything but you're not right in the... More

It's a little bit posh the Tokyu, with swish rooms, no beer machine by each lift, and some pretty upmarket restaurants, but then it's not necessarily geared to tourists such as ourselves, who want a base for trips in and around the city. Probably just as well, because it's not exactly in the thick of things; to get to the... More

We found a good deal for this hotel on Expedia and we were so happy with this hotel! Great service Clean rooms Very friendly staff but with limited english. Useful Kyoto station bus shuttle. Location is not bad but is a bit far from all the buzz of the city.

The waste water from the wash basin gets reused in flush, great idea to conserve water! The location is convenient with a shuttle service to/from Kyoto station every 20mins. The beautiful Nishi Honganji temple is like next door. English breakfast is nice. They do not provide complimentary mineral water in the rooms but Kyoto tap water is claimed to be... More

We enjoyed Kyoto but it was all the better for the warm and sincere greetings we received from hotel staff every time we left in the morning and returned in the afternoon. Staff were great: from the bar waiter who found an iPad to locate a store we wanted to visit, the restaurant waiter who found a map to show... More

We stayed here for two nights. The service was amazing!!! The room was tiny, dank and had two twins (we are a couple). The bathroom was so small we couldn't stand in it together. we tried to upgrade but nothing else was available. The service was amazing!! The concierge and the front desk was super helpful. Shuttle to and from... More

Stayed in Kyoto Tokyu Hotel in June, 2015. Travelled with family. Hotel room is clean - good job in particularly on the carpet. Hotel location is a bit out from convenience but comes with free shuttle service to Kyoto train station. It will be great if shuttle service can be extended beyond 8.30pm. Drivers on the shuttle service deserves a... More

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighborhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
