We found a good deal for this hotel on Expedia and we were so happy with this hotel! Great service Clean rooms Very friendly staff but with limited english. Useful Kyoto station bus shuttle. Location is not bad but is a bit far from all the buzz of the city.

The waste water from the wash basin gets reused in flush, great idea to conserve water! The location is convenient with a shuttle service to/from Kyoto station every 20mins. The beautiful Nishi Honganji temple is like next door. English breakfast is nice. They do not provide complimentary mineral water in the rooms but Kyoto tap water is claimed to be... More

We enjoyed Kyoto but it was all the better for the warm and sincere greetings we received from hotel staff every time we left in the morning and returned in the afternoon. Staff were great: from the bar waiter who found an iPad to locate a store we wanted to visit, the restaurant waiter who found a map to show... More

We stayed here for two nights. The service was amazing!!! The room was tiny, dank and had two twins (we are a couple). The bathroom was so small we couldn't stand in it together. we tried to upgrade but nothing else was available. The service was amazing!! The concierge and the front desk was super helpful. Shuttle to and from... More

Stayed in Kyoto Tokyu Hotel in June, 2015. Travelled with family. Hotel room is clean - good job in particularly on the carpet. Hotel location is a bit out from convenience but comes with free shuttle service to Kyoto train station. It will be great if shuttle service can be extended beyond 8.30pm. Drivers on the shuttle service deserves a... More

Good clean hotel with helpful staff. A/C control in the room is not too effective and there was only one TV channel working. Bed not too comfortable compare to other hotels. Hotel was recently refurbished. Was not able to find many restaurants near the hotel.

Had just left Nikko Hotel in Kanazawa. Wanted a four star property with comparable level of service and comfort. No concierge at all for our two day stay. Room was moldy and worn. No coffee pot, tiny bathroom, bed linens and pillows were terrible. Tried to get manager to help with a side trip booking to no avail. My AMEX... More

Probably the nicest hotel we've experienced in Japan so far. Stayed here because it was relatively inexpensive, and was pleasantly surprised when we got there. Hotel is quite luxurious for the price, and the room is sizeable. The only minus is that it is not very close to the train station. Other than that we were very happy with our... More

The hotel's shuttle bus was waiting for us right where it said it would be outside of Kyoto Station and transported us to the hotel lobby in about 7 minutes. The first thing you see as you descend the escalators is the airy courtyard and water feature, which doubles as a beer garden/patio. Everything in this hotel is clean and... More

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighborhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
