Only reviewing the bar. My wife and I stopped by here after a long day of exploring Kyoto. We both really enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere that is created by the friendly staff/owners and the decor. They have a huge variety of sakes and I enjoyed the 3 glass sample set for JPY1000. They also serve some bar snacks that go... More

Stayed here with a friend for one night. The set up of the hostel is pretty cool, as it's located just above a nice looking sake bar right near the heart of Gion. The staff were very attentive and took care to thoroughly explain the workings of the hostel. The room itself was a bit stuffy, but otherwise fine. The... More

I stayed here with my boyfriend and had a very nice experience JAM Hostel. Since we arrived on separate days, the staff tried to help make arrangements so we got beds on the same bunk. While the building itself was small, the 8-person guestroom had more than enough space. There is a refrigerator where you can keep drinks or snacks... More

Bar review only. Whenever in Kyoto my wife and I visit this friendly sake bar, and the selection is always interesting and the staff eager to discuss this great beverage. It is located just up from the lovely Gion Geisha district and has the best tap beer I've ever had in Japan, the premium Sapporo brand, Yebisu, so good a... More

It was a good pick. It was quite difficult to find a place where to stay in Kyoto at year end. We booked the female dorms for ourselves. We were four. The room was very very small and it was ok because we knew each other, otherwise it would have been quite hard. We were on the 2nd floor. On... More

My husband and I stayed here for six nights at the hostel. It is in a fantastic location close to public transport and a lot of the local sights. The beds were comfortable and the dorm room was spacious with personal lockers. The staff were friendly and very helpful throughout our stay.

We did not stay at this hostel. This review is solely for the sake bar downstairs. The reason I am writing this was because I feel the need to express just how great this sake bar was. We ended up back here two out of the three of our nights in Kyoto. The staff were so friendly that we felt... More

We did not like this hostel. The "lounge" has the size of a doghouse (see pictures) and can barely sit 4 people, so way too small to have a nice time. This hostel is not great for meeting other travelers. They charge money for leaving your bags in the Sake bar (first time ever a hostel charged us in 11... More

this hostel is literally in front of the river! it's right in middle of gion and down the street from the infamous bridge crossing. the hostel itself is clean and modern. the cafe/bar downstairs is definitely a plus!

Great staff, very friendly. A department store's security had moved my illegally-parked bike and left a note in Japanese on it. I could not read the note so I asked the staff what it meant. Not only did they tell me about the note, but they also called the department store and talked with them to try to find out... More
