To begin with, I carelessly left a bag of fine chocolates in the Shinkansen while traveling from Tokyo to Kyoto. After checking in, I tried my luck asking the receptionist to help contact the Railway Company and see if it's possible to send the chocolate back to Kyoto. The receptionist was very kind as she rang the Railway Company straight... More

The hotel was clean, the staff was friendly, and it was very affordable. Easily the best option for the price while staying in Kyoto. Free wifi was solid. The rooms were small - hard to fit our two bags on the floor. Could have been a little more updated and cleaner (mysterious spots on the bedspread) but otherwise the room... More

My husband and I stayed four nights at this hotel on a recent trip. It is close to the Nishiki Market, Daimaru Department Store, Shijo Subway Station stop, and some temples. The breakfast buffets were excellent with a choice of western and Asian specialties. We welcomed the use of the hotel umbrellas one night while it was raining. The showers... More

We stayed for five nights at this hotel on a recent trip, this being our longest stay on a three week tour. Catching up with the laundry was no problem, as with most Japanese hotels the washing machine was cheap and did everything from automatic provision of washing powder and fabric softener to washing and drying the clothes. Breakfast in... More

Stayed for about one week at this property and enjoyed the excellent location. Just steps from the best shopping in Kyoto! The amenities of the hotel are very high quality and the staff were helpful without fail. I only give four stars because the room, though it had modern decor, felt already well worn. The walls were scratched, the table... More

The location is good, there are good shopping areas within easy walking distance as well as the Kyoto Station. There is a Metro stop within 5 minutes walk. Lots of good restaurants within a few minutes walk from the hotel. The bed and pillows were very uncomfortable. Noises from adjacent rooms were disturbing.

Firstly, lets talk about location. Daiwa Ryonet is just 2 mins walk from Shijo station exit 5 and 5 mins walk from Karasuma station giving you instant access to 2 different train lines. This allows you to travel to attractions such as Kiyomizu Dera, Yashaka Shrine, Nijo Castle/ Kyoto Imperial Palace and many more. The hotel is also 8 mins... More

We stayed over 3 nights in Daiwa Roynet Hotel near Shijo metro station. The location of this hotel is very convenient. It's just 2 stops by subway to Kyoto main station where you can find regional trains and Shinkansen. It's also perfect base for sightseeing, we enjoy walking tours so we did almost everything by foot and it's truly possible.... More

Only a block away from the train station. Staff were fairly unaccomodating on arrival didn't explain we had to pay by machine before we went to our room just watched us go up and down the lift. Finally made it to our room and it was pretty smoke smelling had to air it out.

We booked the hotel as we wanted a place close to public transport. The subway stop is 3minutes away but you are also in walking distance to the main shopping area. Pretty convenient. As we know that Japanese hotel rooms can be on the small side we were pleasantly surprised how spacious the room was. Enough pace to store the... More

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighborhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
