Was pretty great to sleep in a capsulated bed in a dorm, it just gives you that little bit more privacy! The staff were very friendly and helpful, the place is clean and has great facilities including a bar! It is also quite central to everything in Kyoto

Nice and chirpy hostel...alot of activities in place to ensure guests can try to get to know locals. i.e. Learn English and Walking tour at Gion. Located in small streets which makes it very nice. and nearby to alot of good restaurants and open mall.

I initially found the price of this hostel a bit steep compared to other hostels I've been to in Japan but apparently, I was getting a bed at one of the deluxe rooms instead of the standard ones. It was a nice and spacious room, though! The kimono sleeping pods are beautiful and offers privacy. Inside the pod, there is... More

I stayed here for 2 nights and stayed in the 10 person mixed dorm. The check in process was simple easy and it was evident from the get go that the staff were very helpful and friendly. It is my first hostel experience. On Monday's they have free takoyaki night and cheap drinks, which gives a good opportunity for people... More

This hostel was awesome. The beds are really cool and comfy. The staff are so so friendly and helpful. Everything is efficient and clean. Free wifi. Very good price for an excellent hostel. The only fault I could draw was that the sinks are quite small so there's no where really to store your things. Bigger bathrooms would be better.... More

I stayed here on my solo Japan trip in September 2015. I loved how the dorms were almost capsule style. The kitchen was well stocked. And the roof top, really can't be any better. My only complaint was we found a cockroach in our room, which the staff immediately took care of! But it still creeped me and the other... More

I stayed a week in a (beautiful) Kimono dorm room on the 4th floor. No lockers in the room, but each bed had a small locked drawer. Free wifi, clean bathrooms and kitchen, 2 washing machines and dryers as well as outdoor washing line. There is a nice outdoor seating area up on the top floor. The bar in the... More

This hostel is excellent! I stayed in an 8 bed dorm and didn't know what to expect initially. But it was great, the room was clean, beds had lots of space and my roomies were cordial. The hostel hosts some events throughout the week which is a great chance to meet Kyoto locals. There is a basement bar as well... More

This Hostel was one of the nicest. It's a very big hostel. Had the female dorms. The bed was so private and cozy. Good location too close to everything. Though it could be bit humid if you keep your curtain close all the time. Toilet and shower were always cleaned. And they do clean the dorm evening too. Overall it... More

Staying in Shinkyogoku Shopping District

Neighborhood Profile
Shinkyogoku Shopping District
Those who delight in shopping and cuisine will find themselves at home in Shinkyogoku. Lauded and visited by locals for its Nishiki Market, where baskets of fragrant spices, dried fish, and just-fried foods are piled high along the snaking streets of its enclosed outdoor shopping spaces, Shinkyogoku is not only a hub for fresh fare, but also for fast fashion fixes. Trends-in-the-making can be spotted in the tall windows of several one-of-a-kind stores featuring local labels and modish boutiques. Arcades, outdoor concert spaces, mega department stores, and small, enchanting cafes have sprung up to accommodate the increasing traffic. Whether looking for souvenirs and kitsch on Shinkyogoku Street, or scoping out the massive food court and restaurant floor at Takashimaya Department store, there's something for every wallet or purse, and a buyer for every item.
