PROS: The few good things about the hotel was that the beds were clean (the rest of the room wasn't) and that the location was about a seven minute walk to the Kyoto station. They also have a washer and dryer in the apartment which was very convenient. CONS: It is in GREAT NEED of a renovation! Everything reeks of... More

Good location near to the station so good for bus links to get around the city to see the temples. Rooms are pretty basic but fine if you accept you are just sleeping in them. Slightly suprised the hotel didn't have wifi! I thoughT that would just be standard these days. There is a GREAT noodle place just next to... More

I wasn't expecting much here particularly after reading some of the reviews. Maybe that's why I was pleasantly surprised. The hotel is conveniently located, about a 7-10 minute walk from the Kyoto station, and a brisk 25-30 minute walk to the Gion area and the Kiyomizu-dera temple. The room was quite big by Tokyo (and I'm guessing Kyoto) standards. It... More

If you want to stay in smelly room with dirty carpets in the hall area, than it is your choice. Small room with microwave and stove, but do you really in Kyoto to cook in your room? the only positive thing is closeness to Kyoto station, but there are plenty of better places near by. Would not recommend to anybody.

A few minutes walk from Kyoto railways station with 24 hr restaurant and convenient store downstairs. Room has fridge, stove, microwave over and a small bathroom that can be used as a clothes dryer. Room is small but neat. Staff are friendly. Recommend

I, my wife and son stayed for four days. As usual we selected a hotel located near main station as we planned to travel almost everyday from Kyoto station. The hotel was a little bit over 10 min walking distance from the station and easily to find. Arriving from our five day stay in Tokyo, we expected better stay experience... More

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighborhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
